Patent number: 8009039Abstract: A system and method for managing the power consumption of power-consuming devices. A remote device manager transmits power save schedules to a local device manager over a communication network such as the internet. The local device manager transmits power save commands to one or more devices in a location such as a store, over a dedicated local communication network. The commands instruct one or more devices to activate or de-activate its power save mode according to the power save schedules. The commands could be dependent upon one or more trigger events.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2008Date of Patent: August 30, 2011Assignee: Sensormatic Electronics, LLCInventors: David B. Patent number: 7161482Abstract: An integrated electronic article surveillance (EAS) and people counting system including an EAS system, a people counting system, and an alarm management unit. The alarm management unit accepts the EAS data signal from the EAS system and a people count signal from the people counting system for facilitating correlation of EAS and people count data. A method of monitoring a passageway and an alarm management unit associated with an integrated system are also provided. There is also provided a people counting system for determining a direction of travel of people including first and second people detection devices and a controller. The controller provides an output representative of a direction of travel in response to the outputs of the first and second people detection devices.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2004Date of Patent: January 9, 2007Assignee: Sensormatic Electronics CorporationInventors: William Matthew Rider, Harry Watkins, Scott Alan Tribbey, David B. Fallin, John Jay Clark

Patent number: 4998244Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing communication among N modules connected to a common communication bus uses a bus structure with a reserve line for signaling the occurrence of a reservation time slot during which time each of the N modules which have information to transmit may reserve a time for transmission over the bus. A plurality of at least N data lines are used for transmission of data words over the bus. Each of the N modules are also assigned use of one of the plurality of data lines for signaling during the reservation time slot that the module has information to transmit over the bus. The reserve line is also used for signaling, that a word of data being transmitted over the plurality of data lines is a last word in a current transmission to be transmitted by the module currently transmitting.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 1989Date of Patent: March 5, 1991Assignee: Racal Data Communications Inc.Inventors: Craig A. Lee, David B. Fallin, Edward J. Sackman, III, Donald L. Wray

Patent number: 4891805Abstract: A method and apparatus for assigning time slots in a frame of time slots used for time division multiplexing, the time slots being representable as a position within the frame, in which it is determined what quantity of the time slots are required to provide a needed amount of bandwidth. A random number generator (40) generates (92) a uniformly distributed random number which is scaled (94) to represent a position in the first portion of the frame. A first of the positions within the frame is assigned based upon the value of the randon number. The remaining positions are assigned by fitting (64) the remaining required positions to the available positions in the frame spacing them at approximately equally spaced intervals as available. This prevents bunching of the used time solts which would otherwise prevent dynamic allocation of large blocks of bandwidth in the frame without complete recalculation of the frame.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1988Date of Patent: January 2, 1990Assignee: Racal Data Communications Inc.Inventor: David B.
