  • Patent number: 5969497
Abstract: An electric induction motor can be given a kick start without excessive current drain on the supply by first connecting a unidirectional supply to a winding of the motor to build up a stationary rotor flux and then applying a starting current to another winding of the motor to produce a stator flux at an appropriate angle (between 0.degree. and 180.degree.) with the stationary rotor flux. Once the motor has begun accelerating the normal running supply can be connected. This starting current may be derived from a capacitance which is charged up during the period of establishing the stationary rotor flux.

  • Patent number: 4886659
Abstract: A process of producing a distinctive color comprises the steps of providing an aqueous mixture of Maillard reactants (a) and (b), and exposing the aqueous mixture to drying and reactive conditions such as spray drying, wherein substantially all the water is rapidly evaporated to yield a dry product having a color which is distinctive relative to the aqueous mixture. Examples of Maillard reactants include various sugars one of which is dextrose, and various amino acids one of which is glycine.

  • Patent number: 4818535
Abstract: A repellent composition e.g. for repelling deer comprises a synthetic blend of components which are characteristic of the acid fraction obtained by a Soxhlet extraction of lion faeces followed by separation into basic, neutral and acid fractions; and felinine. The composition may comprise saturated alkanoic acids with carbon atoms in the range of 3-20; saturated aliphatic alcohols with carbon atoms in the range 14-16; various compounds containing primary or secondary amino groups and having carbon atoms in the range 3-9; a fermented egg product; a bittering agent and an adhesive agent.
