  • Patent number: 8835476
Abstract: The synthesis and activity of novel LpxA inhibitors is described, these inhibitors present antibacterial activity. The compounds were designed based on a receptor model developed using the crystal structure of LpxA and are arranged to have a favorable binding interaction at the active site of the enzyme. In particular, the compounds present the following formula (I) where V, W, X, Y and Z can be independently C, S, N or O and P1, P2 and P3 are ligands to bind to the three points of the proposed pharmacophore model. They can be chosen from a variety of groups.

  • Patent number: 8657465
Abstract: An LED lamp assembly. The assembly includes a heat sink having an upper outermost peripheral portion deformed continuously around an entire perimeter of the heat sink radially inward towards a peripheral rib in a housing cover, whereby the peripheral rib is compressed towards an inner rib of the heat sink thereby locking the housing cover to the heat sink.

  • Publication number: 20060005646
Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus for shifting an automatic transmission having a shift position select lever. The invention selectively shifts the transmission to one of a plurality of different transmission shift positions. The invention includes a steering column positionable in a passenger compartment of a vehicle. A switch is mountable in the passenger compartment of the vehicle and operable to emit a first signal representative of a desired change with respect to a transmission shift position. A motor generates a moving force and a linkage associated with the motor to transmit the moving force from the motor to a shift lever of a transmission of the vehicle. A sensor is responsive to a current transmission shift position and emits a second signal corresponding to the sensed current transmission shift position. A controller is responsive to the switch and to the sensor.

  • Publication number: 20050248142
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus for supporting a steering wheel in a vehicle during normal vehicle handling and is breakable in response to an impact situation. The apparatus includes a member attachable to a vehicle and a steering column connected to the member for sliding movement. The apparatus also includes a capsule for connecting the member and the steering column to one another to prevent the sliding movement during normal vehicle handling. The capsule maintains the member and the steering column relative to one another, overcoming forces urging movement between the member and the steering column relative to one another, up to a first predetermined level of force. When the forces reach the first predetermined level, such as in an impact situation, the capsule breaks and releases the member and the steering column relative to one another.

  • Publication number: 20050070365
Abstract: A telescoping steering column assembly includes lower and upper jackets having inner and outer surfaces, respectively, disposed with respect to one another in telescoping relationship. The telescoping steering column assembly includes a linear bushing disposed between the inner surface of the upper jacket and the outer surface of the lower jacket, that includes a plurality of convolutions disposed axially in side-by-side relationship as viewed in cross-section to provide outer and inner load bearing surfaces to engage the upper and lower jackets and to provide radial walls for flexing to maintain the bearing surfaces in engagement with the jackets to allow the bushing to radially expand and contract. The present invention provides the length-wise grooves formed by the convolutions to allow for reservoirs for lubricant solution to help reduce friction between the jackets, wherein the convolutions are elastically deformed to adapt to the annual clearance between the jackets.

  • Publication number: 20050006525
Abstract: A hollow elliptical-cylindrical hull conformingly houses a hollow rectangular-prismatic cabin whereby the four longitudinal parallel outside edges of the latter make contact with the inside surface of the former. The fully constructed aircraft (either non-powered or powered) includes the integral hull-plus-cabin structure along with nose, tail and airfoil structures that are coupled therewith. The cabin conformingly accommodates hollow rectangular-prismatic modules useful for cargo storage. While the nose and/or tail structure is uncoupled from the integral hull-plus-cabin structure, the modules are inserted into the cabin and the cabin is sealed. The aircraft is lifted (e.g., via airplane, helicopter, rocket or balloon) to a particular elevation and released, whereupon the two wings fully emerge and the aircraft effects controlled flight until reaching its destination.

  • Patent number: 5899560
Abstract: A slurry agitation apparatus for selectively agitating slurry temporarily stored in the interior of a storage tank, which slurry contains heavier-than-liquid solids and is at least somewhat pumpable, comprises a slurry circuit having connected together in seriatim, and in fluid communication through pipes one with the next, an outlet disposed in the sump pit in fluid communication with the interior of the storage tank to permit egress of the slurry therefrom, a flow control valve, a selectively controllable slurry pump, and a discharge nozzle. The discharge nozzle is rotatably mounted in surrounding sealed relation on a substantially vertical spigot securely mounted on the concrete foundation of the storage tank, for selective rotation of the discharge nozzle about a substantially vertical main axis, and has a spout portion in fluid communication with the interior of the storage tank and oriented to emit the slurry from the spout portion as a generally horizontally directed discharge.
