  • Patent number: 11331868
Abstract: A repair for a structural element made from a composite material includes a bracket defining a first surface and a second surface. The first surface is adapted for facing the structural element. A chamfer is located on a first end of the bracket. An angle is defined between a plane of the chamfer and a plane of the first surface, the first surface of the bracket being adapted to be disposed adjacent to a side of the structural element. The repair also includes a sealant material between the bracket and the structural element, where the sealant material occupies a space established between the chamfer and the structural element.

  • Publication number: 20150139385
Abstract: A phase unwrapping method for image demodulation comprises receiving a plurality of images of a fringe pattern captured by rotating the fringe pattern by a predetermined rotation angle. The method estimates a first wrapped phase value for a portion of a first image of the plurality of images and a second wrapped phase value for a corresponding portion of a second image, and establishes a first plurality of elements associated with the first wrapped phase value. For a candidate element from the first plurality of elements, the method determines a constraining element associated with the candidate element using the second wrapped phase value, where the association is established using the candidate element and the predetermined rotation angle, and unwraps the phase for the portion of at least one of the first and second images using the candidate element based on the determined constraining element.

  • Publication number: 20120002256
Abstract: We describe optical techniques for replicating an image to expand the exit pupil of a head-up laser-based image display system. The system includes image replication optics to replicate an image carried by a substantially collimated beam, the image replication optics comprising a pair of substantially planar reflecting optical surfaces defining substantially parallel planes spaced apart in a direction perpendicular to the parallel planes. The system is configured to launch the collimated beam into a region between the parallel planes such that the reflecting optical surfaces waveguide the beam between the surfaces in a plurality of successive reflections at front and rear optical surfaces. The front optical surface is configured to transmit a proportion of the collimated beam when reflecting the beam such that at each reflection of the collimated beam at the front optical surface a replica of the image is output from the image replication optics.

  • Publication number: 20110002019
Abstract: The invention relates to techniques for speckle reduction in holographic optical systems, in particular holographic image display systems. We describe a holographic image display system for displaying an image holographically on a display surface, the system including: a spatial light modulator (SLM) to display a hologram; a light source to illuminate said displayed hologram; projection optics to project light from said illuminated displayed hologram onto said display surface to form a holographically generated two-dimensional image, said projection optics being configured to form, at an intermediate image surface, an intermediate two-dimensional image corresponding to said holographically generated image; a diffuser located at said intermediate image surface; and an actuator mechanically coupled to said diffuser to, in operation, move said diffuser to randomise phases over pixels of said intermediate image to reduce speckle in an image displayed by the system.

  • Publication number: 20060063998
Abstract: A system for navigating and guiding a surgical instrument during a surgical procedure. A transmitter is positioned near a patient's anatomy. A receiver is attached to the surgical instrument. The position of the surgical instrument is tracked using the transmitter and receiver. A processing unit determines the location of the surgical instrument relative to the patient's anatomy and produces images with a pictorial representation of the surgical instrument and the patient's anatomy. The images are displayed on a display. A surgeon can view the images on the display and guide the surgical instrument into position inside the patient. The surgical instrument can be guided inside a patient without continuously producing real time x-ray exposures. Positions of the surgical instrument can be saved and displayed on the display along with the pictorial representation of the surgical instrument in its current position.

  • Publication number: 20050050324
Abstract: The invention provides a system configured to function with medium used for securely storing information. The system is designed to be used by an administrator, and the medium is designed to be used by an end-user. The system creates schemes that are distributed to the end-users. The schemes can be designed with the system to automate log-on processes for secured applications. In addition, the schemes can be designed with the system to automate password changes that are requested by the secured applications.

  • Patent number: 6282931
Abstract: A method is provided for retrofitting an existing dead-bolt assembly with an electrically operated actuator (12, 112, 212, 312, 800). The electrically operated actuator automatically operates the dead-bolt assembly while preserving manual operation of the lock. The actuator assembly has rotating means for rotation of the drive bar (18), which in turn extends or retracts the bolt (14) of the lock. The rotating means may be a lever (28, 128, 238, 328, 438, 818) attached to the drive bar (18) that is pivotable about the axis of rotation of the drive bar (18). The actuator assembly has driving means that forces the rotating means to rotate. The driving means is responsive to an electrical signal, which, for example, may be initiated from a remote-controlled transmitter (502, 602). The driving means may include a motor (20, 120, 220) for rotating a rod (22, 122, 222, 322) that in turn operates an assembly that rotates or drives the rotating means.

  • Patent number: 5781945
Abstract: A portable, foldable bed rail adapted for use with an associated bed having a mattress thereon includes a rail member having first and second substantially identical, mirror image end rail portions and a central rail portion. The end rail portions are hingedly mounted to the central rail portion by respective rail hinge members having parallel axes of rotation. The end rail portions are foldable toward one another adjacent to the central rail portion for storage. The end rails each include a support member having a support leg. The support members are independently hingedly mounted to a respective one of the end rail portions by support hinges. The support hinges have parallel axes of rotation and are rotatable in a direction transverse to the rail hinge members. Each of the support hinge members is independently movable toward and away from its respective end rail portion.

  • Patent number: 4087036
Abstract: A friction welding method and apparatus which monitors temperatures at the interface of ferrous and nonferrous metal products being welded and provides controls for insuring satisfactory welds and also provides automatic means of verification thereof as well as rejection of unsatisfactory welds. Light-sensing means is utilized to detect acceptable welding temperatures at the weld interface for initiating and controlling the welding or forging interval and application of forging pressures. Visible signal means is provided for indicating a faulty weld and mandatory operation of manual means is required for release of faulty welds. Automatic controls in the form of fluid pressure logic circuitry provides necessary interlocks and sequences of operation.
