  • Patent number: 8958936
Abstract: A vehicle, a control system for a vehicle having a user interface, and a method of controlling a vehicle are provided. In response to input selecting an electric-only operating mode, an engine is disabled such that the vehicle is propelled by an electric machine. In response to detecting a predefined vehicle state while the electric-only operating mode is selected, the engine is re-enabled such that the vehicle is propelled by at least one of the engine and electric machine. In response to detecting an absence of the predefined vehicle state while the electric-only operating mode is selected, the engine is disabled such that the vehicle is propelled by the electric machine.

  • Patent number: 8862302
Abstract: A vehicle having an electric machine arrangement, including an electric machine operable to drive the vehicle includes a control system having at least one controller. The control system is configured to implement a method for thermal mitigation of the electric machine arrangement. The thermal mitigation strategy is controlled such that a time between successive implementations of the strategy is inversely related to a temperature of at least a portion of the electric machine arrangement, and the time between two successive implementations of the thermal mitigation strategy may decrease with each successive pair of implementations.

  • Publication number: 20140062349
Abstract: A hybrid-electric vehicle and method of controlling a hybrid-vehicle is provided. The vehicle includes a traction battery, at least one electric-machine, and a controller. The controller is configured to alter a voltage between the battery and the electric-machine based on a measured voltage of the battery or the high voltage bus. In response to an indication that the measured voltage is faulty during a drive cycle, the controller instead alters the voltage between the battery and the electric machine based on a substituted battery voltage signal such that the electric-machine remains operable for the drive cycle.

  • Publication number: 20110080278
Abstract: A display system having an information display configured to display at least one digital indicator. The display system may be configured to receive one or more customization settings indicative of a type, quantity, and placement of at least one digital indicator. A controller may transmit the customization settings to the information display so that at least one digital indicator is shown using the customization settings.

  • Patent number: 7309536
Abstract: A method is provided which uses, or which calculates, a temperature gradient of a portion of a vehicle to determine a value equal to, or representative of, a time before a maximum allowable operating temperature is reached by the portion. If the value is less than a certain threshold, the apparatus reduces the operating speed of the portion and, in one embodiment, provides a warning signal to an operator of the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20030230996
Abstract: A method for controlling a cooling arrangement for electronic components in a hybrid electric vehicle is disclosed. The method includes arranging an electronics cooling loop aboard a hybrid electric vehicle in which a DC to DC converter, DC to AC inverter, and an electronics radiator are placed in fluid communication, one with the others, for cooling the DC to DC converter and the DC to AC inverter; sensing a temperature condition in the electronics cooling loop; and discontinuing operation of the DC to DC converter when a predetermined upper threshold temperature condition is sensed in the electronics cooling loop. A voltage condition of a 12 volt battery may also be sensed, and operation of the DC to DC converter may be resumed when the voltage condition sensed falls below a predetermined lower voltage limit.
