  • Patent number: 8519868
Abstract: Methods for estimating travel time using at least two remote systems to record the timestamps associated with obtaining identifying information of a wireless Bluetooth enabled, or other WPAN technology, electronic device in a vehicle. A remote system in one embodiment is a Bluetooth enhanced traffic controller. Characteristics of Bluetooth technology, such as a unique address for each Bluetooth capable device are used to detect a vehicle with a Bluetooth device by at least a first and a second remote system. Vehicle identifying data including at least a time stamp is transmitted by the remote systems to a central system. The central system determines a travel time, or an estimated travel delay. Travel time related data is provided by the central system to a display, such as a variable or dynamic message sign.

  • Publication number: 20120029798
Abstract: A roadside equipment (RSE) system that can be used for controlling traffic signals and other equipment and corresponding method. A method includes wirelessly receiving vehicle data by an RSE system and from an onboard equipment (OBE) system connected to a vehicle. The vehicle data includes location data, time data, and vehicle identification data related to the vehicle. The method includes determining a most recent location of the vehicle by the RSE system and from the vehicle data, comparing the most recent location of the vehicle to a previous location of the vehicle, and producing a control signal based on the comparison.

  • Publication number: 20120026014
Abstract: A roadside equipment (RSE) system that can be used for controlling traffic signals and other equipment and corresponding method. A method includes maintaining a traffic signal in a GREEN phase in a first direction, including displaying a GREEN indicator in the first direction. The method includes detecting an event indicating that the phase of the traffic signal in the first direction should be changed and changing the phase of the traffic signal to a pre-YELLOW phase in response to the detected event, including continuing to display the GREEN indicator in the first direction. The method includes wirelessly transmitting a message indicating the pre-YELLOW phase and a phase time, the phase time indicating a next change of phase of the traffic signal, and changing the phase of the traffic signal to a YELLOW phase when the phase time has been reached.

  • Patent number: 7712138
Abstract: Managing the selection and scheduling of security audits run on a computing network. The computer network is surveyed by a security audit system to determine the function and relative importance of the elements in the network. Based on function and priority, a more thorough type of security audit is selected to run against each of the network elements by the security audit system. The security audit can also be automatically scheduled based on the information gathered from the survey. Once the system runs the security audit, a vulnerability assessment can be calculated for each element in the network. The vulnerability assessment can be presented in a format that facilitates interpretation and response by someone operating the system. The vulnerability assessment can also be used to configure and schedule future security audits.
