  • Publication number: 20240080712
Abstract: Message faults are caused by network crowding and signal fading at high frequencies of 5G and 6G. Current error-detection and correction algorithms are computationally demanding, especially for new low-cost reduced-capability IoT devices. Disclosed are methods for (a) determining whether a message is faulted using a compact error-detection code, (b) localizing the most likely faulted message element(s) according to the waveform signal, and (c) determining the likely corrected version by back-calculating from the error-detection code. Other versions include testing various modulation substitutions for the most suspicious message elements, having the worst signal quality. The waveform parameters may include a deviation from an average amplitude, phase, frequency, or polarization, as well as an amount of amplitude variation and phase variation within the message element. Identification of the most likely faulted message elements may enable recovery of the message without a costly retransmission.

  • Patent number: 7978627
Abstract: Systems and methods to monitor communications to identify a communications problem are disclosed. An example method to monitor communication includes mirroring a first port on a first network element communicatively coupled to a virtual circuit to a second port on a second network element communicatively coupled to the virtual circuit, mirroring a third port on a third network element coupled to the virtual circuit to the second network element, monitoring mirrored communications data at the second network element by receiving communications data on the second port that are sent to the first port from the third port or from the first port to the third port, and analyzing the monitored communications data to identify a communications problem based on a difference between communications data mirrored from the first port and communications data mirrored from the third port.

  • Patent number: 7813338
Abstract: Systems and methods for generating a command to monitor communications in a asynchronous transfer mode network are described. In an embodiment of the present invention, an analyst or automated system creates a command to instruct a network element to mirror a port to another network element in communication with the asynchronous transfer mode network. In one embodiment, the analyst troubleshoots a communication link between two network elements by creating two port mirror commands, transmitting the commands to the network elements, and then monitoring subsequent communications between the elements.

  • Patent number: 7376223
Abstract: A method and system are provided for connecting a subscriber to an advertiser prior to call completion in an intelligent telecommunications network. A subscriber telephone line is provisioned to receive advertisements which are stored in an originating switch in the telecommunications network. Once the subscriber dials a telephone number to call another party, the switch delays normal call processing and begins playing the advertisement to the subscriber. If the subscriber wishes to be connected to the advertiser, she may provide a predetermined input to the switch. The switch, upon receiving the predetermined input, retrieves routing information, including the telephone number associated with the advertiser, from a network component and connects the subscriber with the advertiser.

  • Patent number: 7292683
Abstract: A method and system are provided for playing an advertisement to a telephone subscriber prior to call completion in a telecommunications network. A subscriber telephone line is provisioned to provide an advertisement. A switch in the telecommunications network detects an off-hook condition at the subscriber's telephone and interprets the digits of the telephone number of a called party dialed by the subscriber. The switch then retrieves an advertisement and plays the advertisement to the subscriber instead of generating a ringing tone prior to call completion. The switch may also play the advertisement instead of a dial tone. The advertisement may be stored in an advertisement module in the switch or in a network component in the telecommunications network. The period for playing the advertisement may be extended by delaying call processing at the network component. Once the advertisement begins playing, the subscriber may terminate the advertisement by depressing a key on a telephone keypad.

  • Patent number: 7099941
Abstract: Information about a logical port in a network is provided in response to identifying the logical port through an identification entry field in a terminal display and subsequent to sending a single query to a network management server. The logical port information may include operational information such as the statistics of the logical port's operation, a listing of virtual connections, such as but not limited to permanent virtual circuits, established through the logical port, statistics of the virtual connections' operation, and trap search results. The logical port information may include the identity and contact information for a user who has locked the logical port of interest. The information is provided from the network management server to the terminal through a communication link, such as a local area network. The identification of the logical port may include a logical port name, as well as a local access and transport area (LATA) selection.

  • Patent number: 6959334
Abstract: Backup logical port service is provided by associating permanent virtual circuit (PVC) descriptions of a primary management information base (MIB) for a primary physical circuit with a service name that is also associated with a backup management information base and corresponding backup physical circuit. Switching from primary to backup service results in the PVC builds in the MIB for the primary circuit being established in the MIB for the backup circuit through association with the service name, rather than having an independently built set of PVCs in the backup MIB that may be error prone. Additionally, the backup service may be a full backup of all PVCs built to the primary service or a partial backup. Backup service may be configured and triggered by a terminal in communication with the management server, including client devices of customers accessing the management server through the Internet.
