  • Patent number: 4796655
Abstract: A fluid control device comprising a pivotable member which has a planar major face and is mounted so as to enable pivotal motion about an axis parallel to the major face. The pivotable member including a fluid jet channel which directs a fluid jet towards a fluid receiving channel defined in a receiving member. The pivotable member is pivotally rotated about the axis by a device operable to pivot the pivotable member. This device may be an electromagnet disposed with its poles adjacent and parallel to the major face of the pivotable member. The motion of the pivotable member alters the relative positions of the fluid jet channel/channels and the fluid receiving channel/channels and thereby the quantity of fluid received by the fluid receiving channel/channels.

  • Patent number: 4702212
Abstract: An electromagnetically operable valve for controlling the escape of fuel from the pumping chamber of a high pressure pump includes a valve member slidable in a bore from the end of which extends an outlet about which is formed a conical seating. The valve member is shaped to cooperate with the seating and is urged into contact with the seating when an electromagnetic device is energized. A fuel inlet passage connected to the pumping chamber extends into a chamber defined by a reduced portion of the valve member and the portion thereof which slides in the bore forming a step which defines an annular surface which is exposed to the pressure in said chamber. When the device is deenergized the fuel pressure acting on said surface acts to move the valve member to the open position.

  • Patent number: 4691679
Abstract: A fuel injection pumping apparatus of the rotary distributor type has a positively reciprocated pumping plunger slidable in a bore in the distributor member which is housed in a body part. The body part has a cylinder housing a piston resiliently biased towards an end wall. A recess in the end of the piston presented to the end wall can be connected to the bore by the plunger at a variable position during the delivery of fuel by the plunger and the cylinder has an enlarged end portion adjacent the end wall. The enlarged portion communicates with the bore during the pumping stroke of the plunger and rapid termination of fuel delivery is obtained when the recess is connected to the bore, due to movement of the piston away from the end wall.

  • Patent number: 4665875
Abstract: A liquid fuel pumping apparatus for supplying fuel to an internal combustion engine includes a plunger slidable within a bore to which can be connected an outlet which in use is connected to an injection nozzle. The bore can also be connected to a drain through a spill valve, the spill valve when open allowing fuel to spill from the bore instead of flowing to the outlet. The spill valve includes a valve member which when the spill valve is open closes off the connection between the outlet and the bore.

  • Patent number: 4501244
Abstract: A fuel injection pumping apparatus for supplying fuel to an internal combustion engine includes a cylinder in which is located a fluid pressure operable piston. An outlet extends from one end of the cylinder and a valve controls the flow of fuel to the one of the cylinder from a fuel source. Also provided is an engine driven cam for actuating a plunger reciprocable in a bore. A second valve controls fluid flow from the bore to the other end of the cylinder and the valve is controlled by an electromagnetic actuator. Transducer means responsive to the position of the cam provides signals to control the actuator, the amount of fuel which flows into the one end of the cylinder being represented by the angular movement of the cam.

  • Patent number: 4418670
Abstract: A fuel injection pumping apparatus comprises piston means slidable in a bore from one end of which extends a fuel outlet for connection to a nozzle. A fuel inlet is connected to the one end of the bore and a valve controls flow through the inlet into the bore. The piston means is actuated by liquid under pressure supplied by a plunger actuated by an engine driven cam located in a cylinder. A two way valve is provided to control flow of liquid from the cylinder either to the bore or to a source of liquid, the valve being controlled by an electrically operated actuator. The actuator is controlled by a control circuit which receives a signal from a transducer associated with the piston means.
