  • Publication number: 20070023997
Abstract: A system and method for optically detecting media feeding malfunctions in an image forming apparatus captures images of a surface of a sheet of media as image signals to detect positional changes of the sheet of media. The detected positional changes are used to determine that a media feeding malfunction has occurred when the positional changes satisfy a predefined condition.

  • Patent number: 7139867
Abstract: An apparatus and method that utilizes partial ordering of ternary hierarchical addresses and their associated masks entries in both binary and ternary content addressable memories (CAMs) for providing fast searches and while reducing address table size used in the processing of communication system (e.g., Internet Protocol (IP), layer-3 switches and ATM switches using E.164 addressing) addresses for identifying the source and destination of each digital packet data.

  • Publication number: 20060209015
Abstract: An optical navigation system. The optical navigation system includes an image sensor capable of optical coupling to a surface of an object, a data storage device, and a navigation circuit. The image sensor includes multiple photosensitive elements with the number of photosensitive elements disposed in a first direction greater than the number of photosensitive elements disposed in a second direction. The second direction is perpendicular to the first direction. The image sensor is capable of capturing successive images of areas of the surface, the areas located along an axis parallel to the first direction. The data storage device is capable of storing the captured images. The navigation circuit includes a first digital circuit for determining an estimate for the relative displacement between the image sensor and the object along the axis obtained by comparing the image captured subsequent to the displacement to the image captured previous to the displacement.

  • Publication number: 20060094331
Abstract: A toy includes a motion sensor and an output device. The motion sensor optically detects motion of the toy with respect to an underlying surface. The output device receives information from the motion sensor and generates output signals based on the information from the motion sensor.

  • Publication number: 20060086712
Abstract: A method for operating an appliance includes (1) turning on the appliance, (2) determining if the appliance is moving with sufficient velocity with an optical motion sensor, and (3) if the appliance is not moving with sufficient velocity, turning off the appliance. An appliance includes an optical motion sensor for detecting motion of the appliance and a controller coupled to the optical motion sensor, wherein the controller turns off the appliance if the appliance is not moving with sufficient velocity.

  • Publication number: 20060033015
Abstract: Power savings occur when the optical path of an optical navigation device is configured to provide that maximum energy from the light source is reflected by the navigation surface to the photosensors of the optical navigation chip. Additional power savings may be achieved when the maximized optical path is combined with the features of a controlled light source that uses specular reflection.

  • Publication number: 20060033014
Abstract: An optical navigation system, e.g. optical mouse, determines optical navigation quality by examining some or all of the photosensors of a frame or monitoring intermediate or final results of the motion estimation system. The optical navigation quality is then used to determine the navigation output produced by the optical navigation system.
