  • Publication number: 20240180580
Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods are operable to track usage of a surgical instrument and modify the performance of the surgical instrument based on the prior usage of the surgical instrument. Some surgical instruments are designed to have a limited service life beginning at their first use, or a limit to their overall usage in order to ensure safe use of the sensitive instruments. However, a lack of ability to track usage characteristics when the instrument is separated from an external power supply allows for user abuse and avoidance of such safety mechanisms. Adding a battery or capacitor to the instrument may allow for an ability to track usage when the instrument is separated from an external power supply. Implementing special user prompts, device use ratios, and device use half-life upon powering down of an instrument may additionally be used to prevent circumvention of safety features.

  • Patent number: 4613786
Abstract: A shielded faceplate for use in an image intensifier having a photocathode which comprises an inner core of glass transparent to light to which the photocathode is sensitive and an outer shielding region of glass which absorbs light to which the photocathode is sensitive. The outer shielding region surrounds and is adjacent to the inner core. The inner core has a transverse dimension which decreases along its length, the transverse dimension being smallest at the photocathode surface. The shielded faceplate is manufactured by arranging in a mold to which glass does not bond a first type of glass transparent to light to which the photocathode is sensitive and a second type of glass which absorbs light to which the photocathode is sensitive, heating the glass members so that they fuse to produce a block having an inner core of the first type of glass and an outer region of the second type of glass and removing the block from the mold.

  • Patent number: 4246516
Abstract: The invention relates to light biassed camera tube arrangements of the kind in which the light bias source within the overall outline of the tube envelope has one terminal connected to a heater pin in order to provide a source of power. The other terminal of the light bias source is connected to a lead extending to a terminal carried by a protecive end base cap for the tube and a removable disc is provided to fit between the base of the tube and a valve base into which the tube is plugged, the removable disc bearing circuitry and terminals provided to contact selected ones of the terminals carried by the protective end base cap so that the nature of the light bias provided may be selected.
