  • Patent number: 9769865
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for opportunistic data transfer (ODT) are provided. ODT improves network coverage, reliability and/or efficiency by permitting data transfer consumers and network access providers to take advantage of communication opportunities that may be mutually beneficial. Fixed and mobile, personal or business, wired or wireless devices, may participate as ODT network operators, providers and/or consumers. ODT participants may be motivated to participate, for example, to reduce battery consumption and improve network coverage, reduce network congestion and interference. A phone, for example, may be enabled to send data to an Internet destination by ODT in lieu of a cellular network in particular circumstances, such as cellular network unavailability, with less costly data transfer and/or less battery power consumption. ODTs may be ad hoc or preauthorized and may be tracked, accounted, and compensated for, such as according to ODT service terms selected by each provider.

  • Patent number: 9712387
Abstract: A broadband gateway, which enables communication with a plurality of devices, handles at least one physical layer connection to at least one corresponding network access service provider. The broadband gateway determines network channel conditions for a requested service and identifies a user profile for a requesting device. The broadband gateway negotiates a service profile for the requested service with the at least one network access service provider based on the determined network conditions and the identified user profile. Content may be acquired and received for the requested service from the at least one network access service provider utilizing the negotiated service profile. The broadband gateway aggregates and assembles the received content. The resulting assembled content is communicated to the requesting device for the requested service. The broadband gateway may relay content among peer devices.

  • Patent number: 9651675
Abstract: A GNSS enabled device that is communicatively coupled to a network, receives time stamps via the network. The time stamps are generated based on reference clock signals within the network. GNSS receiver clock signal frequency may be adjusted based on the time stamps. When GNSS satellite signals and/or SRN signals are not available, the time stamps enable synchronization with GNSS satellites. Network clock signals and/or time stamps may be generated by an access point, a DSL modem, a cable modem and/or a primary reference clock within the network. A series of time stamps may be utilized for adjusting frequencies. Clock signals may be generated for adjusting frequencies based on a comparison between time stamps and oscillator or mixer output. Clock signals are generated for baseband, intermediate and/or RF frequency signal processing. GNSS satellite signals may be demodulated, correlated with a pseudonoise code sequence and/or synchronized based on the time stamps.

  • Publication number: 20170120352
Abstract: A milling tool is disclosed. The milling tool may include an elongated body having a longitudinal axis and a plurality of cutting inserts. The cutting inserts may each have a cutting edge and a cutting radius and be coupled to the body and spaced along the longitudinal axis. One or more of the plurality of cutting inserts may be adjustable (e.g., mechanically adjustable) between first and second cutting radii. A difference between the first and second cutting radii may be at least 10 ?m. The milling tool may include cutting inserts having a plurality of different cutting radii. The milling tool may be configured to have a length that spans an entire height of an engine bore. The cutting inserts having different radii may compensate for dimensional errors in an engine bore diameter that occur when milling a deep pocket.

The tool may include an elongated body having a longitudinal axis and a plurality of cutting inserts coupled to the body and spaced along the longitudinal axis, each cutting insert having a cutting edge. In one embodiment, the cutting edges may have an orientation that is oblique to the longitudinal axis of the elongated body. Each cutting edge may have a first end having a greater cutting radius than a second end. The cutting edges may be offset from the longitudinal axis of the elongated body by an offset angle. In another embodiment, the cutting edges may have a textured or rough surface profile. For example, the cutting edges may have a mean roughness (Rz) of at least 7.5 ?m. The milling tools may increase the surface roughness of a milled engine bore to facilitate a subsequent rough honing process.

  • Patent number: 9634694
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a system and method for performing digital up-conversion of a signal to a desired RF carrier frequency. The system and method efficiently perform digital up-conversion of the signal, in one example, by controlling a sample clock that is used by a DAC to sample and convert the up-converted signal from the digital domain to the analog domain to have a frequency that is four or eight times the desired RF carrier frequency. By controlling the sample clock of the DAC to have a frequency that is four or eight times the desired RF carrier frequency, the system and method can be implemented using currently available IC process geometries such that the implementation consumes much less area and/or power than an analog up-converter configured to have equivalent up-conversion functionality.
