Patent number: 6692027Abstract: A load limiting seat restraint retractor for a seat restraint system in a vehicle includes a housing for operative connection to vehicle structure. The load limiting seat restraint retractor also includes a take-up spool operatively connected to the housing and connected to webbing of a seat restraint system for winding and unwinding the webbing. The load limiting seat restraint retractor also includes a rotatable torsion bar operatively connected to the housing to provide a constant load limiting on the webbing during an impact. The take-up spool is mounted on the torsion bar. The load limiting seat restraint retractor includes a locking mechanism operatively connected to the torsion bar and the housing. The load limiting seat restraint retractor further includes a load limiting device disposed between the locking mechanism and the take-up spool to deform the take-up spool to provide digressive load limiting on the webbing during the impact.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 2001Date of Patent: February 17, 2004Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Kenneth John Siegfried, James Lloyd Webber, David Gerard Hlavaty, George Rodney Kohut

Publication number: 20020140278Abstract: A seat restraint tensioner for a seat restraint system in a vehicle includes a housing for operative connection to vehicle structure and a movable piston disposed in the housing. The seat restraint tensioner also includes a gas generator operatively connected to the housing for expelling a gas to move the piston. The seat restraint tensioner further includes a spool assembly operatively connected to the piston and for connection to belt webbing of the seat restraint system for pulling-down the belt webbing of the seat restraint system in a linear manner and winding up the belt webbing on the spool assembly as the piston moves.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 19, 2001Publication date: October 3, 2002Inventors: David Gerard Hlavaty, James Lloyd Webber

Patent number: 6438810Abstract: A seat restraint buckle assembly for a seat restraint system in a vehicle includes a rigid frame having an open forward end defining a passage to receive a latch plate. The seat restraint buckle assembly also includes a locking member operatively connected to the frame and pivotal between a latched position in which the locking member retains the latch plate within the passage and an unlatched position in which the locking member is held clear of the passage. The seat restraint buckle assembly includes a release button slidably mounted on the frame above the passage for longitudinal movement relative to the frame. The seat restraint buckle assembly further includes a blocking lever operatively connected to the frame and pivotal to contact the locking member and urging the locking member towards the latched position.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2000Date of Patent: August 27, 2002Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Lloyd Walker Rogers, Jr., John R. Rice, David Gerard Hlavaty, James Lloyd Webber

Patent number: 5728345Abstract: The present invention provides an improved method for rapidly making an electrode for electrical discharge machining. According to the invention, a stereolithography process is used to make a cured resin model of the electrode and having a network of interconnected supporting members defining the shape of the electrode and leaving channels between the supporting members to drain away uncured resin from the model. After the model is fully cured and the uncured resin drained away, a slurry mixture of graphite and resin is infiltrated into the voids of the model. The resin is then heat cured so that the resin is burned away leaving the electrode of pure carbon. Alternatively, the graphite and resin mixture can be cured sufficiently to harden and then an electrically conductive metalized coating is applied on the outer surface.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1995Date of Patent: March 17, 1998Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: David Gerard Hlavaty, Mansour Ashtiani-Zarandi

Patent number: 5715713Abstract: A door latch has a control lever operable between an unlocked position permitting normal unlatching of the latch and a locking position preventing unlatching of the latch. A locking lever is pivoted on a housing and operably connected with the lock control lever so that pivoting of the locking lever will operate the lock control lever. The locking lever has a slot receiving a pin carried by a pin control link. An inside lever is pivoted on the housing and operably connected with the inside locking button so that operation of the inside locking button pivots the inside lever. The inside lever has an L-shaped slot, which overlies an elongate slot of the locking lever. A drive pin carried by a control link is captured within the slots. The control link is mounted on a rack which is motor operated.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1996Date of Patent: February 10, 1998Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Michael Eugene Aubry, Lloyd Walker Rogers, Jr., David Gerard Hlavaty, Thomas Adam Dzurko
