Publication number: 20210131625Abstract: A troffer light fixture that is easy to install, requires no brackets to have an acceptable appearance with regard to an existing, previously installed troffer housing, and can be used as a retrofit or as a new installation. The troffer light fixture includes one or more mechanisms with which a user can interact to extend or retract arms that are provided on the back side of the troffer light fixture. These arms work to secure the troffer light fixture in place relate to a ceiling, and when retracted provide that the troffer light fixture can be easily removed from the ceiling. The mechanism can take many forms, but in one embodiment can be provided as being a gear that meshes with gear racks that are provided on the arms.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 6, 2019Publication date: May 6, 2021Inventors: David Gershaw, Daniel Lajoie, Li Juan, Hou Baolin

Patent number: 9182091Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods are provided for both retrofitting existing lighting fixtures with LED panels and for installing ceiling tiles having LED modules incorporated therewith. In one exemplary embodiment, a thin panel includes an LED module integrated therewith and the panel is disposed over an opening in a troffer to provide light from the panel-module combination. In another exemplary embodiment, a ceiling tile includes an LED module integrated therewith and the tile is placed in a ceiling grid so light can be provided from that tile. Exemplary configurations of the systems, devices, and kits, as well as methods for installing the same, are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2012Date of Patent: November 10, 2015Assignee: RemPhos Technologies LLCInventor: David Gershaw

Patent number: 8882298Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods are provided for achieving desirable light distributions. In one exemplary embodiment, the light module includes a body having a pair of opposed complex parabolic bodies, an LED light source, and an inner reflective surface. The light source can be configured to provide for a desired light distribution, such as a bat wing light distribution. The provided light distribution can be such that it is not the result of passing light through a secondary optics component. Thus, while in some embodiments the LED module can include a glare reduction lens disposed over at least part of the LED light source, the lens may not affect the resulting light distribution configuration. Exemplary configurations of other systems, devices, kits, and methods associated with the teachings are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2012Date of Patent: November 11, 2014Assignee: RemPhos Technologies LLCInventor: David Gershaw

Publication number: 20130187534Abstract: Compositions, methods, and systems for improving ways by which light can be created are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a composition can be formed by mixing a particular amount of a carrier and a particular amount of one or more phosphors. The carrier can be selected from a group including plastic materials, glass materials, and ceramic materials. The resulting mixture can be formed into pellets or kernels for use with a LED die. The pellets or kernels can be used in place of powders or other coatings typically used with LED packages. Methods for manufacturing the pellets or kernels, and for creating light by using the pellets or kernels, are also provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 20, 2012Publication date: July 25, 2013Applicant: Remphos Technologies LLCInventor: David Gershaw

Patent number: 8106569Abstract: Methods and devices are provided for an improved light source. In one exemplary embodiment a light source includes a heat sink, a LED die, and a phosphor dome. A conductive material can be disposed in the heat sink, the LED die can be mounted to a top portion of the conductive material such that the LED die is in electrical contact with the heat sink, and the phosphor dome can be coupled to a top face of the heat sink. In another embodiment, a light source includes a heat sink, a sleeve, a LED package, and an optic. A conductive material can be disposed in the heat sink, the sleeve can be disposed around at least a portion of the heat sink and the conductive material, the LED package can be mounted above the conductive material, and the optic can be located above the LED package and coupled to the sleeve. The light sources disclosed herein can be used to replace existing miniature bulbs in a number of different devices, including medical devices such as otoscopes.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2010Date of Patent: January 31, 2012Assignee: RemPhos Technologies LLCInventor: David Gershaw
