  • Patent number: 6041712
Abstract: The invention is a non lethal weapon cartridge comprising a projectile and means for propelling the projectile through a weapon barrel. A munition of this type can be employed by soldiers during operations-other-than-war, such as riot control during humanitarian missions, or by law enforcement personnel when a lethal response is not warranted. The projectile comprises a full-bore projectile body fitted with a compliant nose. The projectile is designed to be spin-stabilized such that it will fly, and impact, nose first, while describing a ballistic trajectory. The projectile is intended to be launched from a rifled weapon tube. The rifling imparts the spin necessary to achieve dynamic stability. The propulsion system utilizes a modern smokeless propellant in combination with a high-low technique to produce consistent interior ballistics.

  • Patent number: 5353779
Abstract: Apparatus for a gas charged and initiating mechanism launches a projectile f a relatively low mass at a low velocity. The apparatus has a chamber which has an opening at one end. A burst diaphragm is seated within this opening and seals it. The opening also houses the projectile. A check valve is mounted in an aperture at the opposite end of the chamber. The compressed gas is charged through the check valve. The bursting of the diaphragm is accomplished by a pointed rod protruding from the rear of the projectile or by an electrically-powered squib associated with the diaphragm. The bursting of the diaphragm provides a quick-acting means for releasing the compressed gas whereby the projectile is accelerated down the barrel of a weapon. Additionally, a safety device is mounted within the cartridge for preventing the accidental functioning of the launching projectile.

  • Patent number: 4928573
Abstract: A silencer and flash suppressor for sabot projectiles, which includes an accumulation chamber having a projectile entrance surrounding and closed by the gun barrel and a projectile exit which is spaced from the projectile entrance by a distance less than the projectile length. The projectile exit is the smallest diameter of an exit cone which is surrounded by an annular portion of the accumulation chamber, which portion may include one or more perforated baffles.
