  • Patent number: 7967298
Abstract: An elongated elastomeric gasket (10) seals a pair of opposing flanges (12, 14) against the passage of liquid without compressing the flanges (12, 14) together. A reinforcing spring (32) is embedded within the elastomeric gasket (10) and is shaped so as to react when deflected by the operation of installing the gasket (10) into an operative position between the flanges (12, 14). A strategically located U-shaped bend (34) formed in the reinforcing spring (32) causes, in a preferred embodiment, contact pressure to be increased between opposed sealing beads at the other end of the gasket. More specifically, lateral contact pressure between a first pair of sealing beads (24) and their associated contact faces (38) is increased as a direct result of the reinforcing spring (32) being displaced during the assembly process.

  • Patent number: 7814880
Abstract: A cover assembly for an internal combustion engine application and method of construction therefore provides one construction for a valve cover assembly, and another construction for an end cover assembly for a crankcase. The cover assemblies include at least one rigid metal carrier having a plurality of bolt openings and a plurality of load limiters located about said openings. A material is overmolded on the carrier and about the load limiters, with the material forming an exposed sealing surface for direct engagement with a seal gasket.

  • Patent number: 7806413
Abstract: A static gasket (26) for use in sealing a clamped joint, such as an intake manifold (16) for an internal combustion V engine (10). The gasket (26) includes a metal core 28 having an embossment (40) formed therein. A layer of elastomeric sealing material (38) is applied to at least the embossment (40) on both sides of the core (28). A crown bead (46) is formed along the convex crest portion (44) of the embossment (40), whereas a pair of flanking beads (48) extend along either side of the embossment (40) adjacent its concave side. The gasket (26) is particularly adapted for sealing joints having inconsistently misaligned gaps at the sealing interface.

  • Publication number: 20060022415
Abstract: The subject invention discloses a sealing assembly that includes a first component and a second component moveable into and out of mating engagement to form a seal therebetween. The first component has a first sealing surface defining a groove and a sealing bead extends upwardly a predetermined height therefrom. The sealing bead is molded within the groove. The second component has a second sealing surface defining a recess for contacting the sealing bead. When the first and the second components are brought into mating engagement, the sealing bead compresses at most 40% of the predetermined height when the second sealing surface contacts the sealing bead.
