  • Patent number: 10148381
Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a device that encodes digital signals representing image data captured by a video camera and provided according to a 4K ultra-high definition (4K-UHD) standard. The digital signals are transmitted as serial digital interface (SDI) streams to a wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) unit; the WDM unit performs electrical-to-optical conversion of the SDI streams and outputs a multiplexed signal to a single fiber-optic cable. The video camera, encoding unit, and WDM unit form a combined module within a housing; the device connects to a proximal end of a single fiber-optic cable, and a distal end of the single fiber-optic cable is configurable for connection to a demultiplexer of a 4K-UHD video presentation device. The multiplexed signal is transmitted on the single fiber-optic cable unidirectionally from the proximal end to the distal end. Other embodiments are disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20180227606
Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for encoding media content based on network quality of service parameters. A system configured to practice the method determines quality of service parameters for a network between a media server and a media client. The system selects an encoder based on a list of decoders available at the media client and the quality of service parameters, and encodes at least a portion of the media via the encoder. The system can further determine settings for the encoder based on a media type, and encode the media via the encoder according to the settings. The system can detect when the media client moves to a new network, detect new quality of service parameters, and select a new encoder based on the list of decoders available at the media client, the media type, and the new quality of service parameters.

  • Publication number: 20170321978
Abstract: A tactical combat rifle includes a two-part, bolt carrier. The upper part of the bolt carrier rides on rails formed in an upper receiver while the lower part of the bolt carrier, although attached to the upper part and moving with it, engages no supporting surfaces. A piston, driven by combustion gases from a regulatable gas block assembly, strikes the upper bolt carrier in the center of its mass to propel it rearward. The barrel is threaded to a removable barrel extension and secured to the upper receiver. A non-reciprocating charging handle is located far forward and accessible from either side of the upper receiver so the user does not have to lower the rifle from the shoulder or take eyes off the target. Combustion debris is kept away from the lower receiver and bolt so operation is cleaner and cycling rates of fire steadier.

  • Patent number: 9534776
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and products passively generate electrical energy from waste heat. Electronic components in cabinets generate waste heat that is used to illuminate an interior of a cabinet. A thermovoltaic semiconductor detects a temperature differential between a pair of terminals installed in the cabinet. The thermovoltaic semiconductor generates a low voltage output in response to the temperature differential. A power supply receives the low voltage output and produces a higher voltage for low-wattage light sources installed in the cabinet.

  • Publication number: 20060058039
Abstract: A method of generating a control signal to enable or inhibit a wide variety of applications is provided. The method generally includes the steps of determining the location of a first mobile radio terminal, determining the location of a second mobile radio terminal, comparing the locations of the terminals, and generating a control signal based upon the comparison. The control signal may be generated if the first and second mobile radio terminals are within a specified distance of one another. Alternatively, the control signal may be generated if the first and second mobile radio terminals are separated by at least a specified distance from one another. Additionally, the control signal may be generated if it is determined that the first mobile radio terminal is at a first specified location and the second mobile radio terminal is at a second specified location spacially separated from the first specified location.

  • Patent number: 6192236
Abstract: Remote control commands are provided to an accessory device utilizing a radiotelephone, such as a cellular telephone, as a receiver which receives control commands over a wide area cellular network utilizing a remote control adaptor. The adaptor may take the form of a detachable adaptor attaching to the radiotelephone or a remote control battery pack replacing the normal battery pack for the radiotelephone or a docking station serving as a remote control as well as a battery charger for the radiotelephone. Alternatively, a lock box is provided allowing remote actuated access to a compartment of the lock box. The radiotelephone acts as a receiver providing an audio signal to a tone signal decoder which passes decoded and converted tone signals to a comparator which assembles a command for comparison to a predetermined password. Switches are activated responsive to the comparison to control accessory devices.
