    Abstract: A liquid dispensing system equipped with a modular cord set for powering an electrically-operated dispensing module of the system. The cord set includes a plug removably inserted into receptacle extending through a manifold of the system. The manifold heats and supplies liquid to the dispensing module. When the plug is positioned in the receptacle, electrical contacts on the plug are coupled with corresponding electrical contacts on the dispensing module. The cord set and dispensing module can be independently disconnected from the manifold without disturbing each other.

    Abstract: A device for dispensing a heated liquid, such as a hot melt adhesive, which includes a heated dispenser body having a liquid passage in communication with a liquid inlet and a liquid outlet. The dispenser body further includes a valve element having a circumferential groove therearound cooperating with a recessed portion of the dispenser body to define a cavity about the valve element. A flexible seal is situated within the cavity between the liquid passage containing the heated liquid and an upper area of the dispenser body. A first portion of the seal is configured to form a fluid tight seal within the recessed portion and a second portion is configured to form a fluid tight seal about the valve element during reciprocation thereof relative to the recessed portion, thereby preventing liquid from leaking out of the liquid passage past the flexible seal and into the upper area.

    Abstract: Liquid dispensing apparatus having a pressure loaded quick disconnect assembly. The apparatus includes a first liquid containing component having at least one liquid passage, a second liquid containing component including at least one liquid passage, a movable connecting member having portions contained in the passages of the first and second liquid containing components, and a force transmitting member connected with the movable connecting member. The force transmitting member directs force against the first liquid containing component when the liquid passages of the first and second liquid containing components contain the pressurized liquid. This securely connects the first and second liquid containing components together using force generated by the internal pressurized liquid. When the pressure is removed, the force transmitting member may be quickly removed to disconnect the components.

First and second connected needle guides receive respective portions of the needle in a manner inhibiting sideward movement thereof. The first needle guide allows flow of liquid through the liquid passage adjacent the first needle guide to the dispensing orifice when the needle is moved away from the valve seat. The first needle guide is connected to the valve seat by way of a press fit and is connected to a second needle guide by way of another press fit. The connected needle guides are likewise press fit into a bore in the body. These connections all aid in maintaining close tolerances and excellent alignment of the needle. A liquid seal is generally disposed between the first and second needle guides and prevents liquid from entering the air passage.

    Abstract: An apparatus for melting and dispensing rapidly degradable reactive adhesive such as moisture curable hot melt adhesive from a thermally conductive, sealed container includes a housing within which the container is supported in a position to engage a heated surface of a platen. The platen is mounted within the housing in fluid communication with a heated manifold carrying a gear pump. The platen melts the adhesive within the container and provides for the transfer of heat uniformly throughout the stream of melted adhesive discharged through the outlet of the container. The melted adhesive is transmitted from the platen into the gear pump in the manifold which is thermally isolated from the platen to maintain the adhesive therein at a substantially constant temperature.

    Abstract: A filter for hot melt adhesive is carried within a passageway in a manifold and is rotatable therein between a filtering position in which hot melt adhesive is directed to the inner core of the filter at one end thereof, and a backflushing position in which hot melt adhesive is directed onto the outside surface of the filter at the opposite end thereof. In the filtering position, the hot melt adhesive flows from the inner core outwardly through a filter screen into the main passageway for collection and discharge from one end of the manifold. In the backflushing position the adhesive flow is directed from the outside surface of the filter in the reverse direction through the filter screen to dislodge filtered impurities therefrom, and then the impurities are carried out a drain at the opposite end of the manifold.

The insert includes at least one slot and expansion means so that the insert can be inserted into a duct without press fitting and subsequently expanded to urge the flutes into intimate thermal contact with the wall of the duct. Removal of the expanding force permits the insert to be removed from the duct for maintenance.
