  • Publication number: 20020135842
Abstract: To monitor and compensate for gain shape variations in an optical fiber communication system usually a submarine such system, a low-frequency amplitude modulation is imposed at known amplitude upon location, usually a shore terminal (2). At another location, e.g. equalisation station (10), the received amplitude is monitored. Variations as between different channels represent response variations also in relation to signals and are compensated for.

  • Patent number: 6208441
Abstract: An optical-wavelength division multiplexing system, method and branching unit. The arrangement drops one, or more than one, predetermined wavelength signal(&lgr;2) from a trunk(18) onto a branch and adds signals(&lgr;2′) at the predetermined wavelength, or at a predetermined different wavelength from the branch out of the trunk. A sensor(34) senses the level of the signal(s) dropped and a controller(36), which responds to the control signal, adjusts the level of the add signal(s)(&lgr;2′) to an optimum level for adding to the trunk(18).
