  • Patent number: 4884944
Abstract: A flow fence for a turbo fan jet engine, as taught by Stein et al. in U.S. Pat. No. 3,841,790, is modified by the provision of serrations about its internal circumference. Thus, when the modified flow fence is inserted into or removed from the flow field, a more gradual transition occurs in the flow thereby improving surge margins.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 7, 1988
Date of Patent: December 5, 1989
    Assignee: Avco Corporation
    Inventor: David L. Tate
  • Patent number: 4568085
Abstract: The spinning target assembly comprises a pair of posts and a bridge therebetween. Three spinning target units hang downwardly from the bridge. The units move back and forth between the posts. Each unit includes a pair of supports and a target therebetween rotatably carried thereby. Two Hall-effect devices are mounted in each support and a magnet is mounted in the spinning target, whereby the Hall-effect devices can sense the direction and number of revolutions of the target.

  • Patent number: 4368005
Abstract: A flow stabilizer is presented which equalizes the flow of fluid through the passageways of the channel diffuser used with a centrifugal type rotary compressor. Slots are formed in the sidewalls of the flow separating vanes in the diffuser. The slots open into cavities within the vanes. The multiplicity of cavities communicate by means of openings through the diffuser wall into a common closed manifold. The fluid interconnection between the multiplicity of passageways in the diffuser and the encircling common manifold increases the operating range of the compressor since pressure surges in one or more passageways are quickly equalized.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 16, 1978
Date of Patent: January 11, 1983
    Assignee: Avco Corporation
