  • Publication number: 20070132073
Abstract: A packaged semiconductor device includes a two piece lead assembly having vertically separated top and bottom lead frames. A semiconductor die is between the two lead frames and makes electrical and thermal contact to the two lead frames. The lower lead frame is generally flat while the upper lead frame has a flat top surface and downward extensions that fall on two opposite sides of the lower lead frame and that end in flanges that have bottom surfaces that are coplanar with the bottom surface of the bottom lead frame. When the assembly is molded, the top surface of the top lead frame and the bottom surfaces of the flanges and the bottom lead frame are exposed to allow electrical contact to the semiconductor die and to provide thermal conductive paths to dissipate heat developed in the semiconductor die.

  • Publication number: 20050049305
Abstract: Preferred embodiments of the current invention relate to methods of preventing and/or treating hearing loss by administration of L-carnitine or its derivatives. More particularly, administration of L-carnitine or its derivatives is disclosed for preventing and/or treating hearing loss caused to mothers and/or their offspring during the perinatal period by the ototoxic effects of chemotherapeutic agents, aminoglycoside antibiotics, as well as excess noise.

  • Publication number: 20050003411
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention employ complexly shaped, high-surface-area channels for separation and purification of molecules, including important biopolymers such as proteins, glycoproteins, polysaccharides, and other molecular components of living cells. The relatively large internal surface areas of the complexly shaped channels employed in embodiments of the present invention provide, in comparison to traditional, simply shaped separation channels, increased heat dissipation during electrokinetic separation, and a decreased tendency for bulk-solution flow. Heat dissipation prevents high temperatures that can denature proteins and that can induce thermal currents within the separation channel. Bulk-solution flow within a separation channel can overwhelm the generally linear, electrical-potential-induced migration of molecules that leads to efficient and well-resolved molecular separations.

  • Publication number: 20040086768
Abstract: A novel design and process for: (a) a membrane electrode assembly (MEA) with aligned carbon nanotubes as a nano-scale gas distrubutor which yield better gas conversion efficiencies in PEM fuel cells, and (b) doped silicon flow field plates (FFP) which increase electrode conductivity of the membrane-catalyst-gas diffusion layer (GDL)-FFP interfaces of the proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). Also, part of the invention are a stacking configuration and a gas distribution design that also enhance conductivity of carbon/metal catalyst/electrode, GDL, and FFP interface surfaces without crushing the FFPs. Aligned carbon nanoscale gas distributors are employed at the interfaces, thereby increasing the overall performance of th PEMFC. The FFPs are easy to manufacture and mass-producible, yet mechanically sturdy and significantly lighter in weight than their conventional counterparts.

  • Publication number: 20020151491
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method for the identification of a treatment for overproduction of mucin during otitis media (OM) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The method uses a MUC5AC plasmid to identify novel cytoplasmic proteins of Nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae, a common mediator of OM and COPD, which up-regulate human MUC5AC mucin transcription via a positive p38 MAP kinase pathway and a negative PI 3-Kinase-Akt pathway. These proteins can be used to identify or design inhibitors of the p38 MAP kinase pathway and activators of the PI 3-kinase Akt pathway.

  • Patent number: 5737500
Abstract: The present invention is a mobile redundant dexterous manipulator with a seven-degree-of-freedom robot arm mounted on a 1 degree-of-freedom mobile platform with a six-degree-of freedom end effector including a real-time control system with multiple modes of operation. The manipulator-plus-platform system has two degrees-of-redundancy for the task of hand placement and orientation. The redundancy resolution is achieved by accomplishing two additional tasks using a configuration control technique. This mobile manipulator with control system allows a choice of arm angle control or collision avoidance for the seventh task, and platform placement or elbow angle control for the eighth task. In addition, joint limit avoidance task is automatically invoked when any of the joints approach their limits. The robot is controlled by a processor employing a 6-by-7 Jacobian matrix for defining location and orientation of the end effector.
