  • Publication number: 20030064659
Abstract: An activity center is disclosed that includes a first section and a second section. In one embodiment, a removable connection between the first section and the second section enables detection of infant activity by an actuator in the first section to produce sensible output in the second section. In another embodiment, a connection between a first section that includes a support frame capable of supporting an infant enables detection of infant activity by an actuator in one of the sections to produce sensible output in the other section.

  • Publication number: 20020145318
Abstract: An adjustable vehicle seat may include an adjustable head support, body support, harness, or any combination thereof. A latching mechanism couples an upper portion of the vehicle seat to a seatback. The latching mechanism provides a mechanical coupling between the upper portion and a seat body. The mechanical coupling permits vertical adjustment of the upper portion, which may be configured to provide an adjustable headrest for the vehicle seat. The upper portion may further include side bolsters and harness guides associated with a attached seat harness and/or an auxiliary seat harness. In this embodiment, the latching mechanism permits simultaneous adjustment of the harness, headrest and side bolsters for accommodating a seat occupant. In the preferred embodiment, the vehicle seat is configured as a child's car seat which may be used as either a forward facing car seat with attached harness or a belt positioning booster seat.

  • Patent number: 6409205
Abstract: A Child's stroller including a latch mechanism for convenient folding and unfolding of the stroller, a bolster/tray that pivotally mounts to the upper handlebars of the stroller and is adapted for receiving an infant carrier or car seat for convenient transport of an infant passenger thereof in the stroller. The latch mechanism utilizes a latching handle that pivotally engages a spring loaded collar for disengagement of the stroller frame.

  • Patent number: 6367875
Abstract: An infant carrier is shown that can be used as a rearwardly facing infant car seat either by itself or attached to a separate base support, as a stroller seat, or as a carrier for an infant with an adjustable handle attached between longitudinally opposed ends of the carrier. The separate base support can be belted into a vehicle seat and left in place after the infant carrier is removed. The base support has a vertical portion that rests parallel to the back seat of the vehicle and includes a mirror mounted high enough on the back portion to be visible from the vehicle's rear view mirror when the infant carrier is mounted in the base support. The infant carrier has a handle that can be reciprocated in the axial direction of the carrier to actuate two separate attachment mechanisms for attaching the infant carrier to the base support or to a stroller.

  • Patent number: 6170910
Abstract: The invention includes a pivot that is preferably attached to a child's seat and used to adjust the position of a canopy. The canopy pivot can be adjusted by pulling on the canopy frame to move the canopy to a desired position. No separate locking mechanisms are required for locking and unlocking the canopy at a plurality of different positions. The canopy pivot includes a flange member extending from the child's seat. The flange can have indents or nubs therein which mate with indents or nubs located on the canopy pivot member. The resiliency of the flange member at a specific location between the indents or nubs and the contact point of a retainer structure provides the necessary locking force for keeping the canopy pivot locked and for allowing it to unlock when a person pulls the canopy frame to pivot the canopy about the canopy pivot.

  • Patent number: 6155638
Abstract: A child restraint seat is shown having a system for tightening the safety harness belt that includes an adjuster plate with the adjuster plate being slidably mounted on a guide track on the back side of the restraint seat. The adjuster plate includes a belt tensioning portion that contacts the safety harness belt at various positions between two opposite fixed ends of the safety harness belt. Movement of the adjuster plate along the guide track on the back side of the restraint seat causes the belt tensioning portion of the adjuster plate to change the slack length of the safety belt by an amount approximately equal to two times the distance which the adjuster plate is moved along the guide track. A pawl is part of the adjuster plate assembly and is biased into contact with teeth on the guide track to hold the adjuster plate in a predetermined position along the guide track.

  • Patent number: 6079780
Abstract: A child's booster seat is configured to be molded in a single piece, with an upper, back portion and a lower, seat portion connected by an integral hinge. The upper and lower portions can be pivoted about the hinge so that integral mortise and tenon structures are brought into engagement and can be pinned to hold the seat in an upright, use configuration. Indicia are disposed on the upper portion to show maximum and minimum suitable seated heights for child occupants of the seat. An adjustable shoulder belt positioned is disposed on the upper portion.

  • Patent number: 6048028
Abstract: A child restraining apparatus for mounting in a passenger seat of a vehicle is provided. In one embodiment, the child restraining apparatus has an improved vehicle seat belt pathway to accommodate vehicles having particularly forward or high seat belt anchor positions. The child restraining apparatus can also include easily identifiable seat belt pathways corresponding to the seat's forward seat-facing and rear seat-facing orientations and an adjustable harness with easily identifiable harness placements corresponding to the seat's forward facing and rearward facing orientations. In the forward facing orientation, the improved vehicle seat belt pathway generally provides an entry point for a vehicle seat that is disposed forward of, and above, the seating surface of the child car seat.

  • Patent number: 5845967
Abstract: A molded booster seat has an upper back portion and a lower seat portion connected to an integral hinge. The upper and lower portions are pivoted about the integral hinge toward each other to form a rigid body, and cooperate to form a plurality of mortise and tenon joints. The upper and lower portions are locked in the rigid body configuration by a pair of side plates and a pair of locking rods extending through the seat between the side plates. The booster seat also includes an adjustable belt positioner that is configured to move between a plurality of different adjustments. The upper and lower positions are located to accommodate the fall range of sizes of children of a child sitting in the booster seat. The booster seat further includes indicia for indicating height limitations of a child sitting in the seat. The indicia can be labels attached to a seat cover disposed on the seat.
