  • Patent number: 6705466
Abstract: A rack for shipping and storing a plurality of glass panels includes a frame which holds a bottom support and a rear support in planes that intersect at substantially a right angle. The bottom and rear supports have notches to receive edges of the panels. The rear support has a plurality of channels with a separate retainer slidably received in each channel for engaging an upper edge of a panel placed in the rack. A spring loaded mechanism maintains the retainers in engagement with the respective panel, thereby holding the panels in the rack.

  • Patent number: 6098804
Abstract: A package for shipping and storing a bundle of glass panels includes a plurality of elongated corner caps located at corners of the bundle. A plurality of fastening bands extend around the bundle and through the corner caps. The fastening bands pass over curved surfaces on the corner caps which prevent the bands from making sharp bends. Some of the curved surfaces are located on swivel guides with rotate to accommodate different angles of the fastening bands for different size bundles of panels.

  • Patent number: 5909808
Abstract: A container for storing and shipping a stack of glass sheets on edge sandwiches the sheets between a lower baseboard and an upper cap board, the stack and boards being enveloped by corrugated front and rear covers. Side flaps of the covers are secured to each other to prevent racking of the stack and vertical banding is provided around the covers. The cap board extends beyond the side flaps for handling by a sling with the banding supporting the stack from the cap board, and the baseboard is supported on feet for handling by a forklift. The cap board and front and corrugated covering may be provided in one piece which spans the entire stack or in two pieces with the pieces at opposite ends of the stack and the stack exposed between them.

  • Patent number: 5813536
Abstract: A package for shipping and storing a bundle of glass panels includes a plurality of molded plastic corner caps, wherein each one has an L-shaped cross section for embracing one corner of the bundle formed by the intersection of two edge surfaces of each glass panel. Each pair of corner caps is coupled by a separate side sheet that is securely received in a cavity of each corner cap to prevent racking of the panel bundle. A pair of plates are slidably mounted on each corner cap hold the bundle of panels between the plates. A number of strapping bands extend around the corner caps and the bundle of panels tying the assembly into a unitized package. An optional support tray to be engaged by material handling equipment may be held beneath the panel bundle by the strapping bands.
