Patent number: 8959092Abstract: The present disclosure comprises systems and methods for providing a stream of only those photographs (including those inter-mixed with videos and hybrid types (animated gifs, animated photo bursts, etc.)) that may be of interest to particular users in a social network based on consideration of user social graphs and other external signals generated for the photographs based on predefined criteria to determine user interest levels. The systems and methods obtain photographs, retrieve social graphs for particular users, evaluate and filter photographs, rank them, and limit the number of photographs provided for viewing from a single source. Accordingly, only photographs that are determined to be most interesting to particular users are provided for display to them.Type: GrantFiled: December 26, 2012Date of Patent: February 17, 2015Assignee: Google Inc.Inventors: Isaac Sparrow, Anthony Howard Payne, Kevin Courtney Smilak, Simon Han, Amir Fish, David M. Patent number: 8826446Abstract: A system and method for adjusting privacy protection for a user in a plurality of applications is disclosed. A privacy protection request is sent to a user device. In one embodiment, the request is displayed on user device in the form of a pop-up window. In another embodiment, the request is displayed in a privacy settings area. The privacy protection request includes a plurality of protection levels. Once a protection level is selected the protection level is sent back and received by the system. Privacy settings are adjusted according to the selected privacy protection level based on information stored in a master template. In some embodiments, the privacy protection level is translated to associated privacy settings. Once the privacy settings have been adjusted, the privacy settings are applied to a plurality of online applications associated with the user based on the privacy protection level selected.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 2011Date of Patent: September 2, 2014Assignee: Google Inc.Inventors: Sean Y. Patent number: 8700710Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide techniques that enable a first user to add a second user to a social subnetwork of the first user's social network. In one example, a method may include discovering a second computing device associated with a second user. A first user associated with a first computing device and the second user may each be associated with a social networking service. The method may include receiving, from the second computing device, identification data associated with the second user. The method may include determining an identifier based at least in part on the identification data received from the second computing device. The identifier may identify the second user in the social networking service. The method may also include sending a request to a remote computing device to associate the second user with the social subnetwork of the first user.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2012Date of Patent: April 15, 2014Assignee: Google Inc.Inventors: James Alexander Gallagher, David M. Patent number: 5542043Abstract: Our method and system for enumerating a minimal number of test cases for systems with interacting elements operates relationships between the elements and the number of characteristics evaluated for each element. In our inventive method as executed in a computer system, the user enters values for each of the elements and then defines relationships between the elements. Our method then enumerates a table of test cases for each relationship between elements using deterministic procedures, when applicable, and random procedures when the deterministic procedures are not applicable. After a table of test cases is generated for each of the relation, our inventive method combines relationships into a single table of test cases.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 1994Date of Patent: July 30, 1996Assignee: Bell Communications Research, Inc.Inventors: David M.
