    Abstract: The invention provides thermoplastic polymer alloy compositions based on syndiotactic polystyrene, ethylene copolymers and styrene block copolymers. They are useful in high temperature, chemical resistant molding applications. The compositions are formed by melt-blending under high shear. Preferably the composition contains syndiotactic polystyrene, an epoxy group-containing ethylene copolymer, an acid group-containing styrene copolymer, and optionally a styrene-containing block copolymer.

    Abstract: Polymers containing &agr;-methylenelact(ones)(ams) such as &agr;-methylenebutyrolactones are useful in blends with other polymers. For examples such polymers which have reactive groups are toughened by mixing with a rubbery material which has complimentary reactive groups, or polymers containing repeat units derived from &agr;-methylenelact(ones)(ams) are toughened by mixing with polymeric core-shell particles having an elastomeric core and a specified thermoplastic shell. The properties of thermoplastics are also improved by blending with &agr;-methylenelact(ones)(ams) such as &agr;-methylenebutyrolactones containing (co)polymers.

The apparatus includes a return drawer (52, 156) and a retrieve drawer (54, 158) which are opened responsive to signals received from a display terminal (26) which is networked with a computer (12) which includes a database (14). The return drawer includes a pocket (74, 160) therein. The pocket is accessible from outside of a housing (56) when the return drawer is moved to an open position. The pocket includes an opening (76, 156). The pocket is closed by a trap door (78, 170) when the return drawer is in the open position. Medical items to be returned (132, 184, 186) are placed in the pocket and the return drawer is closed. Upon the closing of the return drawer the trap door is moved to an open position by an actuator. The returned medical item passes from the pocket to a retrieve area (84, 188) in the retrieve drawer.

    Abstract: Stereoscopic images are presented by alternately displaying corresponding left eye and right eye images in succession, substantially extinguishing transmission of light from the left eye images to the right eye of a viewer and from the right eye images to the left eye of the viewer, for example by the use of polarizing filters, and alternately and in synchronism with the alternate display of images, scattering unextinguished light from the left eye images that leaks through to the viewer's right eye and from the right eye images that leaks through to the viewer's left eye. In a preferred embodiment, scattering is achieved by using a liquid crystal scattering shutter that is electrically triggered in synchronism with the display of images. The shutter disperses the unextinguished light that leaks through the system so that no image information is perceived and the light appears merely as a slight increase in background illumination.
