  • Patent number: 4993896
Abstract: An edge contouring system for removing burrs from edges of precision parts. The system includes an industrial robot for moving a special piloted deburring tool along the part edges. A compliance device applies a constant force on the deburring tool to keep it in contact with the part edge, yet permits movement of the tool in a direction normal to the part surface to accommodate for irregularities in the part geometry. A pilot integral with the deburring tool limits penetration of the tool into the part edge.

  • Patent number: 4792353
Abstract: A consolidated metal-ceramic composite comprises a first phase of particles of aluminum oxide or a solid solution based on aluminum oxide uniformly distributed in a second matrix phase wherein the second matrix phase is non-reactive with aluminum oxide and contains a sufficient amount of titanium carbide at the interface between the first and second phase to prevent a chemical reaction at the interface during consolidation at the liquidus temperature and which exhibits good mechanical properties with regard to strength and toughness at high temperatures up to about 1200.degree. • Patent number: 4552046
Abstract: The present invention comprises a cutting tool having a cutting tool insert which may be automatically rotationally indexed. The cutting tool includes a shank and an indexable cutting tool insert rotatably connected to the shank. The insert includes a plurality of tips and a side surface therebetween. Indexing means including an index member slidably mounted to the shank are also provided. The index member includes a locking surface and a cam lobe. The indexing means is effective for rotating the insert upon extension of the index member so that the cam lobe pushingly engages the insert, and locking the insert in a stationary cutting position upon retraction of the index member so that the locking surface is securely positioned against the insert side surface. In an exemplary embodiment of the invention, the index member comprises a slider which is translatable only in a direction parallel to a longitudinal axis thereof.
