  • Patent number: 5102305
Abstract: A turbomachine having a unitary ceramic rotating assembly mounted within a split housing. The rotating assembly includes at least a turbine and integral shaft, the shaft providing a cooled bearing support surface for a fluid film foil bearing.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 13, 1988
Date of Patent: April 7, 1992
    Assignee: Allied-Signal Inc.
Inventors: Frank A. Bescoby, David M. Kotchick, Stanley C. Pollitt
  • Patent number: 4913982
Abstract: A monolithic solid oxide fuel cell of the type characterized by a plurality of fuel and oxidant passageways extending through the core of the fuel cell. The fuel cell is constructed only of anode, cathode, electroylte and interconnect materials. The cell is constructed using multilayer tapes formed by first roll milling four individual tapes of cathode, electrolyte, anode, and interconnect material, and then roll milling the multilayer tape from the four tapes of a single material. Passageways are formed within the cathode and anode layers by roll milling elongated organic fibers into the tapes and burning out the fibers during the binder removal, sintering process. A manufacturing process is also disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 19, 1988
Date of Patent: April 3, 1990
    Assignee: Allied-Signal Inc.
Inventors: David M. Kotchick, Nguyen Q. Minh
  • Patent number: 4896975
Abstract: A ceramic shaft machinery element having an incorporated cooled bearing runner surface providing superior support for the ceramic shaft.

  • Patent number: 4816036
Abstract: A monolithic solid oxide fuel cell of the type characterized by a plurality of fuel and oxidant passageways extending through the core of the fuel cell. The fuel cell is constructed only of anode, cathode, electrolyte and interconnect materials and is formed with integral manifolding for parallel flow through the core. The cell is constructed using alternatively stacked electrolyte walls and interconnect walls which are themselves multilayer tapes formed by roll milling individual tapes of a desired material, and then roll milling the multilayer tape from the tapes of a single material. A manufacturing process is also disclosed.
