  • Patent number: 8548955
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for determining whether databases in a mainframe computing system have updated image copies. A list of all databases in a mainframe computing system is received and backup data for each of the databases is received. From the backup data it is determined whether each of the databases has a current image copy. If each of the databases does not have a current image copy the databases without a current image copy are identified. The present invention also relates to a method for automatically creating control cards and job control language (JCL) for restoring a mainframe computing system.

  • Patent number: 8255747
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system method for automatically providing resolutions for abnormal end codes from a mainframe system. An abnormal end code for a mainframe computer system is received from a user. A storage device is accessed to determine if there is a resolution for the abnormal end code. If there is a resolution for the abnormal end code, the resolution is provided to the user. If there is not a resolution for the abnormal end code, it is determined what question should be asked of the user. The question and the answer to the question received for the abnormal end code help determine the correct resolution for the abnormal end code.

  • Patent number: 8195604
Abstract: A system and method for ensuring existence all IMS database components operating on a mainframe computer may include a storage unit configured to store multiple IMS databases and multiple respective sets of IMS database components. A processing unit may be in communication with the storage unit. Software, when executed on the processing unit, may cause the processing unit to (i) access multiple IMS database libraries, (ii) identify each set of IMS database components that is missing at least one IMS database component in the IMS database libraries, and (iii) generate a report listing each set of IMS database components missing at least one IMS database component.

  • Patent number: 8185831
Abstract: One embodiment of a system and method for creating a macro statement to create a display screen on a mainframe database system includes, in a mainframe computer, reading an image screen datafile including control cards, parsing each of the control cards, and generating macro statements that define content and attributes of data fields on the image screen defined by the control cards in the image screen datafile.

  • Patent number: 8150821
Abstract: A system and method for performing database utilities on a DB2 database may include using a single procedure (proc) for each database utility function. At least one parameter may be provided, where the at least one parameter identifies a DB2 database name. A generic control card may be accessed, where the generic control card may be identified by a value of the parameter(s). A utility control card may be generated using the at least one parameter. A database utility may be executed on a DB2 database by using the generated utility control card.

  • Patent number: 7822780
Abstract: Computerized methods and systems for generating procedures to be executed in mainframe computing environments, such procedures capable of being used with multiple databases are provided. The procedures are “generic” in that they contain an include member therein which, upon execution of the procedure, may be used to generate a database definition statement identifying the database on which the procedure is to be run. As such, generation and maintenance of only a single generic procedure is required when such procedure is to be run on multiple databases, significantly reducing the opportunity for human error that is associated with the generation and maintenance of the documentation necessary for jobs to be run in mainframe computing environments.

  • Patent number: 7734665
Abstract: A system and method for performing database utilities on a database. The system may include a mainframe computer that includes a storage unit and at least one database stored on the storage unit. A processing unit may be configured to receive and schedule jobs submitted for execution. An electronic display may be in communication with the processing unit and execute a software program configured to cause the processing unit to display a menu of selectable utilities on the electronic display, display a utility parameter entry screen in response to receiving a utility selection, and generate information including parameters entered in the utility parameter entry screen for use in performing the selected database utility on the database(s).
