  • Publication number: 20190022285
Abstract: A medical device such as a stent (10) or medical balloon (40) is functionalised prior to coating with a bioactive material (54), specifically by acidification or basification the contact surface or surfaces (50) of the medical device. Functionalisation with subsequent coating of bioactive agent directly onto the functionalised surface provides a significantly more consistent and reliable coating of bioactive agent on a medical device without requiring containment or time release devices.

  • Publication number: 20180370672
Abstract: A plastic container (1) has a first set of flex panels (2) and a second set of flex panels (3) one set being adapted to react to pressure changes within the container to a different degree than the other set. This can be achieved by different curvature and/or size and/or different distance from a central longitudinal axis of the container. At least one of the panels has at least two different extents of curvature. In some embodiments one or more of the panels may be flat.

  • Patent number: 10105531
Abstract: There is disclosed an electro-stimulation device having co-operating male/female locking engagement between an internal electrode connector and an externally facing contact electrode. This arrangement aids easy assembly of the electrostimulation device especially when using a unitary device body to form a self-contained device. The device may be arranged to deliver constant target current to a muscle for electro-stimulation of that muscle. The device may be a completely self-contained device with no external means for the adjustment and control of the electro-stimulation delivered to the muscle during treatment.

  • Patent number: 10099834
Abstract: An improved blow molded plastic container having generally rounded sidewalls that are adapted for hot-fill applications has two adjacent sides and two pairs of controlled deflection panels, each pair reacting to vacuum pressure at differing rates of movement, whereby one pair inverts under vacuum pressure and the other pair remains available for increased squeezability or extreme vacuum extraction. The opposing sidewalls are symmetric relative to vacuum panel and rib shape and placement. The ribs and controlled deflection panels cooperate to retain container shape upon filling and cooling and also improves bumper denting resistance, decreases vacuum pressure within the container, and increases light weight capability.

  • Publication number: 20180236143
Abstract: There is disclosed a method of improving the reliability of coating an implantable medical device, such as a stent, with bioactive material in the absence of a carrier material such as a matrix or polymer layer. The method involves cleaning volatile components from the exposed surfaces of the medical device, removing carbon deposits and then applying a uniform carbon layer in a controlled environment. The deliberately applied carbon layer masks impurities of the underlying native oxide layer and leads to more uniform bioactive material coating not only a over the surfaces of a single medical device but also from device to device within a batch and between batches of devices. This improves production as well as optimising the amount and release of drug on the medical device without the need for a carrier material.

  • Publication number: 20180228944
Abstract: There are disclosed implantable medical devices and apparatus for treating implantable medical devices during production, so as to cause the implantable medical devices to have abluminal surfaces and luminal surfaces with different functional characteristics and in particular surface energies. The luminal surfaces of the medical device are preferably coated with carbon, so as to have a low surface energy, which reduces the risk of thrombi forming when implanted into a patient's vessels. The abluminal surfaces are treated so as to have a high surface energy, such that a therapeutic, preferably bioactive, material, such as a drug, can adhere to the abluminal surfaces and preferably without any need for a containment layer such as polymer or other matrix material. Once the therapeutic material has been delivered into the tissue wall, the stent can remain within the patient's vessel without leaving any delivery artefacts, as occurs with some prior art drug eluting medical devices.

  • Publication number: 20180161013
Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for computer-aided tracking and motion analysis with ultrasound. A computing device is employed to access an ultrasound video generated by at least one ultrasonic imaging device and/or at least one motion sensing camera. A target patch embodied is tracked throughout frames of the ultrasound video by compressing target patches of individual ones of the frames of the ultrasound video into vectors; generating a space partitioning data structure for each of the frames of the ultrasound video; and identifying an image intensity feature for each frame utilizing a corresponding one of the space partitioning data structures generated for each frame of the ultrasound video. Optimized tracking locations may be determined for a sequence of the ultrasound video using the image intensity feature identified for each frame.

  • Patent number: 9993354
Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods are provided for measuring forces in the space of a knee during surgery. Such forces can be caused by tension in the ligaments of the knee. A femoral member is engaged with a distal femur. While the knee is flexed, partially extended, or fully extended, a force sensor and a gauge shim can be placed in the gap between the femoral member and the tibial plateau to measure the forces therebetween. The force sensor provides an accurate and quantifiable measurement of force, making knee replacement surgery and ligament tension balancing more accurate, standardized and repeatable. The force sensor comprises an elongate housing which comprises a thin force sensing distal portion and a proximal handle portion.

  • Patent number: 9969517
Abstract: A plastic container comprises an upper portion including a finish defining an opening into the container, a lower portion including a base defining a standing surface, a sidewall extending between the upper portion and the lower portion, the sidewall defining a longitudinal axis, and at least one substantially transversely-oriented pressure panel located in the lower portion. The pressure panel is movable between an outwardly-inclined position and an inwardly-inclined position to compensate for a change of pressure inside the container. The standing surface defines a standing plane, and the entire pressure panel is located between the standing plane and the upper portion of the container when the pressure panel is in the outwardly-inclined position.

  • Patent number: 9970176
Abstract: A compact utility loader is operated by a standing operator at the rear of a frame. A loader arm assembly comprises a scissors linkage on either side of the frame nesting around the prime mover. Each scissors linkage has an upper loader arm that is pivoted at its rear end to rears ends of a pair of lower loader arms such that the pivot connections to the upper loader arm move upwardly and forwardly relative to the frame during elevation of the loader arm assembly to provide a high lift capability. The frame is self-propelled by a differential drive and steering system that is operated by dual levers. A hand grip extends between and unifies the operation of the levers to permit the operator to more easily move the levers in the ways that are needed to provide either straight motion of the frame or turns of the frame.

  • Patent number: 9802708
Abstract: A fluid check valve for use in an aircraft fluid handling system having a confined surrounding structure where a first distance is defined between a fluid duct and the surrounding structure where the design of the fluid check valve is configured to facilitate removal of a first flange and the flow duct by moving the first flange and flow duct a second distance that is less than the first distance. The check valve is offset into the upstream side of a second flange to provide the reduction in the distance that the first flange has to be displaced to remove the first flange and flow duct from the check valve. A first alternate configuration of the fluid check valve utilizes rotational stops attached to the downstream surface of the flow flaps and in a second alternate embodiment configuration, rotational stops extend upstream from the flow flaps.
