  • Patent number: 5798774
Abstract: A gas assisted liquid jet apparatus, suitable for use in ink jet printers, includes a transducer housing having a plurality of ink passages and is designed to be used with solid or hot melt ink. The apparatus operates with a compressed air source to provide a laminar air flow through an orifice from where ink is ejected. As a result, ink ligaments and droplets uniformly accelerate toward the printing medium, and the high speed laminar flow reduces friction at the orifice, thus reducing the formation of ink ligaments or satellite droplets. The apparatus may be made by attaching different layered members together. This improves the efficiency and ease of fabrication of multiple array liquid jet apparatus. Because of the layered structure, ink passages and air chambers each may be placed in a selected layered member or in more than one layered member. The location of the ink passages in the same layer or structure, such as the transducer housing, as a heater provides improved heating capabilities.

  • Patent number: 4806036
Abstract: A continuous form tractor drive is disposed out of the way and out of sight below the printing platen (which itself may be capable of feeding individual forms to a print station). The mechanical paper handling and printing mechanism is affixed to the upper portion of a hinged housing with the continuous form tractor drive mechanism depending therefrom such that, when rotated upwardly and rearwardly to an opened position, easy access is provided for loading paper into the continuous form paper drive.

  • Patent number: 4761087
Abstract: A printer is provided with a controllable bail located between a print station and a downstream paper tear-off station. Upon occurrence of a first control signal, a printed portion of the paper is advanced to a desired tear-off position adjacent the tear-off station. Thereafter (after a predetermined time delay or after operator switch actuation), the paper is retracted to a new first print line position at the print station. The intermediately located bail is released at least after the leading edge of the paper is retracted thereunder and until sufficient paper is again advanced (e.g. during new printing operations) to ensure that paper is again located between the printing platen and the bail before the bail is re-engaged.
