Patent number: 11882916Abstract: A refillable cosmetic dispenser with a cartridge for a stick cosmetic that can be locked in a retracted position except when engaged with a corresponding dispenser base. Locking formations retained by an elongate body and an elevator cup have a locked condition to lock the elevator cup against movement relative to the elongate body. The dispenser base receives the elongate body, and a release member of the dispenser base actuates the locking formations from the locked condition to the unlocked condition. The locking formations retained by the elongate body can be plural resiliently deflectable fingers disposed along a circular shape, and the release member can be a central column that is operative to deflect the resiliently deflectable fingers out of engagement with the locking formation of the elevator cup. The elevator cup can thus be locked in a retracted position to be freed by a corresponding dispenser base.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 2020Date of Patent: January 30, 2024Assignee: HCP Packaging USA, Inc.Inventors: David P. Dunton, Stephen G. Dudienski

Patent number: 11395535Abstract: A keyed refillable cosmetic dispenser for a stick cosmetic. The cosmetic dispenser has a cosmetic insert cartridge and a dispenser base with a matching key pattern combination. The insert cartridge has an inner body with a key pattern, an elevator cup, and a rotary extension and retraction mechanism for the elevator cup and a retained cosmetic. The key pattern of the insert cartridge can be a keyway in a keyway member of the inner body, and the key pattern of the dispenser base can be formed on a central column that forms a key member. The key patterns can be patterns of surface deviations, such as ridges and channels, that intermesh when the cosmetic insert cartridge is received by the dispenser base to produce a rotary driving engagement therebetween. A line of keyed cosmetic dispensers can be established by plural cosmetic dispensers with different key pattern combinations.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 2020Date of Patent: July 26, 2022Assignee: HCP Packaging USA, Inc.Inventors: David P. Dunton, Stephen G. Dudienski

Patent number: 11006731Abstract: A refillable cosmetic compact with a product base insert repositionable in relation to a base structure between an engaged configuration and a disengaged configuration. An actuation opening through the base structure permits a pressing of a release button of the product base insert to induce the product base insert from the engaged to the disengaged configuration. Resiliently deflectable catch members project longitudinally from either or both of the base structure and the product base insert. Converging deflection surfaces engage the catch members as the product base insert is repositioned from the disengaged configuration to the engaged configuration to deflect the catch members laterally inwardly to retain a cosmetic pan and to permit a deflection of the catch members laterally outwardly as the product base insert is repositioned from the engaged configuration to the disengaged configuration to release or receive a cosmetic pan.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2019Date of Patent: May 18, 2021Assignee: HCP Packaging USA, Inc.Inventors: David P. Dunton, Stephen G. Dudienski

Patent number: 5970990Abstract: A mascara container has a bottle for receiving a supply of mascara and defining a bottle neck and opening. A cap is removably secured to the bottle neck at a closure end of the cap, the cap having a comb end extending from the closure end to a top end of the cap and defining a comb slot therebetween. An applicator is mounted to the closure end of the cap and extends through the bottle opening when the cap is secured on the bottle neck. A comb has teeth sized for combing eyelashes, and the comb pivotally mounted to the comb end of the cap for pivotal movement between a closed position with the teeth stored in the comb slot and an open position with the teeth deployed for combing action. The comb is removably retained in the comb slot by snap engagement and is provided with an extending grip for manipulating the comb.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 1998Date of Patent: October 26, 1999Assignees: The Brideport Metal Goods Mfg. Co., Revlon Consumer Products CorporationInventors: David P. Dunton, Robert Le Bras-Brown, Jeffrey Mizell, Dominic A. Paratore, James Thalheimer

Patent number: 5286248Abstract: A flexible pouch formed from a single sheet of plastic material folded over upon itself along an umbrella like fold assembly to provide the opposed walls of a chamber for storing a product and an optional second sheet to form the bottom of the chamber. The walls and the bottom are sealed along their periphery to form the chamber. The pouch has a self-opening spout formed in part by the fold assembly which expands and springs open when the sealed end of the spout is cut off. The fold assembly not only provides a large spout opening, but also provides a spring force which keeps the spout open so that all the product may be emptied from the chamber.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1990Date of Patent: February 15, 1994Assignee: Colgate-Palmolive CompanyInventor: David P. Dunton
