  • Publication number: 20040194591
Abstract: A method and device is disclosed for clamping an object with quick adjusting pliers. A top jaw has a bottom handle, a slot, and a series of ridges located around the slot. A pin extends through the slot and includes an engagement element. A bottom jaw has a top handle and another opening for receiving the pin. The engagement element engages at least one of the series of ridges in a first position, wherein the top jaw and bottom jaw pivot about a first axis that extends though a longitudinal axis of the pin, and wherein the engagement element is moveable along the first axis from the first position to a second position wherein the engagement element does not engage any of the series of ridges.

  • Publication number: 20020144862
Abstract: A load lift comprising a lifter and a linkage on the lifter carrying a load support for movement therewith to different elevations. The linkage is a four-member linkage which includes a first vertical side member carried by the lifter, a second vertical side member carrying the load support, a third member constituting an upper member of the linkage pivotally connected to the first and second members, and a fourth member constituting a lower member of the linkage pivotally connected to the first and second members. An interconnection between the first and second members holds up the second member and load support and is thereby subject to loading on account of the load support and load thereon. Instrumentation senses the loading on the linkage indicative of the load on the load support.

  • Patent number: 6327791
Abstract: A position detector for sensing the position of a movable member which moves along an axis relative to a stationary member. A nonrepeating N bit chain code embodied in a scale on the movable member runs along the axis. A detector fixed to the stationary member is positioned to sense a portion of the chain code. The detector has K elements (K>>N) generating a plurality of signals. A controller determines the position of the movable member relative to the stationary member as a function of the signals.

  • Patent number: 5913379
Abstract: An articulated aerial platform system having a lift assembly including an upper parallelogram riser and a lower parallelogram riser. The upper and lower risers are raised and lowered by a single riser cylinder mounted between a base of the system and the upper riser. Relative pivoting motion of the upper and lower risers is controlled by a timing link interconnecting the upper and lower risers. A work platform mounted at the end of a jib pivotally connected to a telescoping boom pivotally connected to the upper riser is leveled for boom motion by operation of a master cylinder and slave cylinder arrangement. The slave cylinder is disposed in a generally vertical position. A jib cylinder actuating motion of the jib is connected across the diagonal of the jib.

  • Patent number: 5394959
Abstract: A scissors lift apparatus has three scissor units for supporting heavy loads. A central scissor unit has its arms located inwardly of the immediately lower and upper scissor units, and folds into the upper and lower scissor units for storage within a chamber in a mobiled chassis. The scissor arms of the upper and lower scissor units includes rectangular box beams with a greater vertical than horizontal dimension. Hydraulic cylinders are located within and coupled to the opposite two arms of the center scissor unit to expand and collapse the same. The mobile chassis has front steering wheels mounted with hydraulic powered-caster-type wheel drive and steering apparatus. The steering king pin is laterally offset from the vertical plane through the center of wheel. A dual fail safe braking unit on the trailing wheels has an applied hydraulic cylinder unit including a floating cylinder with a single spring applied piston and rod which is supported in a fixed journal and connected to one wheel.
