  • Patent number: 11960683
Abstract: A display system for sensing a finger of a user applied to the display system includes a display panel; a sensor for sensing the finger; a sensing light source configured to emit a first light having a first wavelength W1; and a reflective polarizer disposed between the display panel and the sensor. For a substantially normally incident light, an optical transmittance of the reflective polarizer versus wavelength for a first polarization state has a band edge such that for a first wavelength range extending from a smaller wavelength L1 to a greater wavelength L2 and including W1, where 30 nm?L2?L1?50 nm and L1 is greater than and within about 20 nm of a wavelength L3 corresponding to an optical transmittance of about 50% along the band edge, the optical transmittance has an average of greater than about 75%.

  • Patent number: 5960997
Abstract: A beverage dispensing apparatus comprises a system for dispensing a base beverage including a control for controlling dispensing of a quantity of the base beverage, and a system for dispensing at least one flavoring for admixture with the dispensed base beverage. The flavoring dispensing system has a valve for controlling dispensing of the flavoring and a control operable in response to actuation of the beverage dispensing system control to dispense base beverage for opening the valve to dispense flavoring simultaneously and throughout dispensing of the base beverage with a constant volume ratio of base beverage and flavoring.

  • Patent number: 5445290
Abstract: A modular beverage cooling and dispensing system comprising a plurality of beverage cooling and dispensing modules, and a single power module containing a single compressor for servicing all of the beverage cooling and dispensing modules. Each beverage cooling and dispensing module comprises a housing, a tank within the housing for holding a liquid, an evaporator in the tank for chilling the liquid, and at least one beverage conduit positioned in the tank for exposure to the chilled liquid to cool beverage flowing through the conduit. A dispensing head is connected to the beverage conduit for dispensing beverage. Refrigerant lines connect the compressor of the power module and the evaporators of the beverage cooling and dispensing modules. The power module is physically separate from the beverage cooling and dispensing modules so that the power module may be placed at a convenient location remote from the beverage cooling and dispensing modules.

  • Patent number: 4907417
Abstract: A cold drink dispenser and, more particularly a refrigeration system for such a dispenser, is disclosed. The dispenser has a beverage flow path, a first coil or evaporator for prechilling a beverage flowing through the beverage flowpath, and a second or ice bank coil immersed in a liquid bath with the flowpath also immersed in the ice bath. A first modulatable expansion valve (e.g., a pulse modulated solenoid valve) is used to regulate the flow of refrigerant through the first coil and a second modulatable valve is used to regulate the flow of refrigerant through the ice bank coil. A control system (e.g., a microprocessor-based control) monitors certain temperatures and initiates or blocks the flow of refrigerant through one or both of the coils in response to certain pre-established system paramaters so as to insure that the beverage dispensed is below a desired temperature, even under high load operating conditions.
