  • Publication number: 20150134071
Abstract: A prosthesis suited for orthopedic implantation comprising a modular intramedullary rod that provides intramedullary guidance and that supports an artificial joint surface that can articulate with another artificial joint surface in various ways. Intramedullary guidance systems and methods introduce some and/or all surgical tools and ankle prostheses components through the tibia, using minimal invasive exposure. The systems and methods align the talus and tibia for the installation of one or more ankle prostheses components, and also maintain that alignment during the installation using intramedullary guidance.

  • Patent number: 9022115
Abstract: A method for wellbore perforation in which a section of the wellbore to be perforated is isolated and purged of wellbore fluid to provide a clear path for laser beam transmittal. A laser beam emitter in the purged wellbore section transmits a laser beam pulse from the laser beam emitter to a target area of a sidewall and formation lithology of the purged wellbore section, thereby altering a mechanical property of a material of the sidewall and formation lithology and producing material debris. A liquid jet pulse of a liquid is transmitted immediately following termination of the laser beam pulse to the target area, thereby removing the material debris from the target area. This cycle is then repeated until the desired perforation depth has been achieved.

  • Patent number: 9004816
Abstract: A method for remediating contaminated soil includes adding a heat-activated oxidizing agent into the soil; exposing the soil to direct current through a first set of electrodes so as to cause migration of the oxidizing agent through the soil and pore water contained in the soil; and exposing the soil to alternating current through a second set of electrodes so as to heat the soil and thus to activate the oxidizing agent. The first and second sets of electrodes are optionally the same set.

  • Patent number: 8929514
Abstract: A dual energy X-ray source for use in Homeland Security, Medical, Non-destructive Testing, and other markets includes a power supply, and a single x-ray tube. The X-ray tube includes two cathodes, and a single anode. The electrons from the cathodes travel predominantly along the axis of the x-ray tube, and impact the anode. The grid and/or focus coil direct the electrons so that electrons can pass by the cathode. The cathodes are kept at different potential, such that the tube can rapidly switch energies, and can rapidly switch output flux from each cathode.

  • Publication number: 20140229195
Abstract: The present invention generates a forecast factor indicating an anticipated demand for a medical resource in a medical facility during a selected time period. The invention generates the forecast factor using billing data retrieved from one or more billing data systems wherein the retrieved billing data is from a prior time period that is comparable to the selected time period. The invention may also generate a schedule of the medical resource using the determined forecast factor such that the generated schedule may substantially correspond to the anticipated demand for the medical resource during the selected time period. In addition, the invention may also generate one or more displays of the determined forecast factor to a user and may also receive a user input for selecting and/or modifying the protocol used to determine the forecast factor.

  • Patent number: 8755245
Abstract: A decoder control makes use of controllable transfer gates, which effectively implement selectors, to implement required timing offsets for codes that have particular structure. For instance, such timing offsets are effective for LDPC codes with block off-diagonal structure, for instance, as described in the co-pending application. In some implementations, the memory architecture is formed of cells where each cell includes not only a storage element, by also control logic that combines a select signal and the write versus read signal. By co-locating this control logic in each memory cell, control logic and its associated signal distribution is reduced, thereby reducing circuit area and power consumption.

  • Patent number: 8717818
Abstract: In one aspect, a storage device includes a plurality of storage strings, each comprising a serial interconnection of a plurality of active storage elements, each storage element having a part for maintaining a storage state and a part of modulating a current through the element according to the storage state. The device also includes mapping circuitry for selectively sensing a storage state of a storage element in a storage string by forming current though the storage element that is a non-linear function of the storage state. In some examples, the mapping circuitry comprises reference string of active elements, and the mapping circuitry selectively senses a storage state by forming a difference in currents in the sensed storage string and in the reference string that is a non-linear function of the storage state. In some examples, the active storage elements comprise floating gate transistors.
