  • Patent number: 9562569
Abstract: A method of aligning flanges on two components to align and transfer torque from one component to the other uses a plurality of scallop regions on the periphery of a flange on one component; and a plurality of raised regions on the periphery of a flange on the other component, the raised regions being sized and shaped to engage the scallop regions on the flange when axially aligned to transfer torque there between.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 19, 2012
Date of Patent: February 7, 2017
    Assignee: Hamilton Sundstrand Corporation
Inventors: Walter Ernest Ainslie, David Ronald Adair
  • Patent number: 9297266
Abstract: An example method of sealing an interface within a gas turbine engine includes holding a sealing ring arrangement relative to a turbine nozzle using a flange extending from a combustor liner. The method further includes urging the sealing ring arrangement toward a sealed relationship with the turbine nozzle.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 4, 2012
Date of Patent: March 29, 2016
    Assignee: Hamilton Sundstrand Corporation
Inventors: David Ronald Adair, Walter Ernest Ainslie, Gordon F. Jewess, Anthony C. Jones, Eric J. Alexander
  • Patent number: 9097142
Abstract: A first structural static component having an outer diameter is aligned with a second structural static component having an inner diameter to the centerline of a gas turbine engine rotating assembly. The first static component is centered inside the second static component leaving a gap between the outer diameter of the first component and the inner diameter of the second component to permit them to mate at operating temperatures. Tabs and slots are placed on the periphery of the static components to align the static components with the centerline at build temperature.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 5, 2012
Date of Patent: August 4, 2015
    Assignee: Hamilton Sundstrand Corporation
Inventors: David Ronald Adair, Pete Simpson
  • Patent number: 8820045
Abstract: A drain assembly for an auxiliary power unit having a hot zone formed by a combustor case comprises a fire enclosure, a drain fitting, a discharge port and a piston seal. The fire enclosure encapsulates the hot zone of the combustor case. The drain fitting connects to the fire enclosure. The discharge port extends from the combustor case into the drain fitting. The piston seal is positioned between the drain fitting and the discharge port.
