  • Patent number: 7342817
Abstract: A system for writing data using an electron beam to change the structure of a small section of a storage medium and includes at least one focused electron beam source. The duration of a write cycle of the focused electron beam source is controlled at least in part on an estimated or measured amount of charge transmitted by the focused electron beam source to the storage medium during the write cycle.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 6, 2005
Date of Patent: March 11, 2008
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.

  • Publication number: 20070044043
Abstract: A system for imaging a substrate can comprise an image data source, an electromagnetic radiation source operatively connected to the image data source and configured to emit electromagnetic radiation in accordance with information provided by the image data source, and a DBR film applied to a substrate. The DBR film can comprise two types of film layers, wherein the two types of film layers are each stable at ambient temperature, each of the two types of film layers having a glass transition temperature (TG) that is lower than the temperature needed to produce deformation of bulk material of the two types of film layers upon interaction with the electromagnetic radiation.
    Type: Application
    Filed: August 22, 2005
    Publication date: February 22, 2007
Inventors: David Schut, Andreas Stonas, Robert Bass, Timothy Weber
  • Publication number: 20060233091
Abstract: A storage device comprises a substrate having a recording layer, the recording layer having plural regions associated with respective plural storage cells. A light source generates write light having a first wavelength to write to the storage cells, wherein the storage cells have a size less than the first wavelength.

  • Publication number: 20060093732
Abstract: Systems and methods for forming templates for trace or circuit deposition are described. Specifically, a method of forming a template for trace or circuit deposition can comprise steps of jetting an ink-jettable composition onto a substrate in a predetermined pattern, wherein the ink-jettable composition includes a liquid vehicle and at least one coupling agent dispersed therein. The substrate can include functional groups interactive with the coupling agent, wherein upon contact between the coupling agent and the substrate after the jetting step, the coupling agent becomes attached or attracted to the substrate. The method can also include the step of contacting the coupling agent with a metal-containing composition such that a metal of the metal-containing composition becomes attached or attracted to the coupling agent.

  • Publication number: 20050160964
Abstract: A photonic-crystal filament is formed by mixing a slurry comprising particles of substantially uniform size and a precursor material for a desired metal, urging the slurry through an orifice to force the particles and precursor material into a combination having a desired crystallographic configuration, drying the combination emerging from the orifice, and sintering the precursor material.

  • Patent number: 6822241
Abstract: An emitter device including a focusing array with plural focusing columns to focus emissions from one or more emitters onto a target medium. Relative movement between the target medium and the focused emissions allows each focusing column to focus emissions over an area of the target medium encompassing the movement range. In a preferred embodiment, separate emitter, focusing array and target medium substrates are used. The focusing array may be moveable, or in a particularly preferred embodiment, is affixed to the emitter substrate, in which case the target medium substrate is movable or the focusing array includes beam direction control.
    Type: Grant
