Patent number: 10948566Abstract: A new asynchronous localization method for a network of nodes and transmitters, the position of at least one of the nodes and/or transmitters being known, involves receiving a first signal directly from a first transmitter at a first node of a first node pair, receiving the first signal relayed from a second node of the first node pair at the first node, and determining the delay at the first node between the direct and relayed first signal by comparing the direct and relayed first signals. This may be repeated with the first node acting as relay to determine the delay at the second node. Time difference of arrival and/or time of flight between first and second nodes may be determined using the determined delay at the first and/or second node and/or known node locations. The process is repeated for additional transmitters/node pairs until sufficient information is determined for desired applications.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2016Date of Patent: March 16, 2021Inventors: Donald Harbin, Ryan Miyamoto, Erin Horner, David Siu, Christopher Sullivan, Derek Ah Yo, Ken Cheung

Patent number: 8536998Abstract: A mesh-networked sensor platform has a mesh network of nodes that connect with existing electrical infrastructure or are powered through other means such as batteries or energy scavenging. The mesh network forms a self-healing and self-configuring network robust against individual node failures. Wireless mesh networking integrated circuits (ICs), energy monitoring ICs and solid state relays are used to create a low-cost, easy-to-install energy visualization and management system. The system can intelligently control energy usage at the sockets to stop energy from being wasted. Software for a central base station uses energy usage data from each node to create an energy usage profile to automatically detect anomalies in energy usage and take steps to correct them. Other sensors can be easily added for a multitude of applications. Power usage and control of each appliance can be viewed via an interne connected PC or smart phone via a social networking website.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 2012Date of Patent: September 17, 2013Assignee: Oceanit Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: David Siu, Ken C. K. Cheung, Joseph M. Cardenas, Luke B. Joseph, Ryan Y. Miyamoto, Donald Harbin

Patent number: 5677864Abstract: An intelligent memory device comprises a data module, an access module and an interface module and is configured to allow data manipulation to take place within the data module without the involvement of the host system. The memory module consists of a plurality of data storage elements each of which has an associated three port switch enabling data communication between the data storage elements without data having to tie up the data bus of the host system. The access module comprises a 1:N switch and a range decoder. The 1:N switch provides access between the host system data bus and the three port switches of the data module, while the range decoder decodes a range of addresses to be affected by an internal memory operation. The interface module comprises an instruction decoder and control logic and is responsive to an instruction sent to the intelligent memory device by the host system to control the operation of internal memory manipulations.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 1996Date of Patent: October 14, 1997Inventor: David Siu Fu Chung

Patent number: 5044847Abstract: A floor anchor pocket for mounting in a vehicle designed to carry wheelchairs or cargo is described. The pocket is provided with an internally located spring and a specially shaped cut-out so as to provide positive self locking for a tie down strap hook which is insertable therein.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 1990Date of Patent: September 3, 1991Assignee: Queen's Univeristy at KingstonInventors: Gerald A. Patent number: 4792771Abstract: A quadruple mode bandpass filter has at least one cavity resonating in four independent orthogonal modes simultaneously. Preferably, the filter has two cavities, one cavity being a quadruple mode cavity and the remaining cavity being either a single mode, dual mode, triple mode or quadruple mode cavity. By introducing a resonant feedback coupling into filters of the present invention, the number of transmission zeros produced by the filter is equal to the order of the filter. Previous filters have cavities resonating in either a single, dual or triple mode and the maximum number of transmission zeros is equal to the order of the filter minus two.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1987Date of Patent: December 20, 1988Assignee: Com Dev Ltd.Inventor: David Siu

Patent number: 4787908Abstract: An endoprosthetic metatarsal-phalangeal replacement joint is described. The joint includes a distal metatarsal component having a part-spherical convex distal superior phalangeal articular surface, and two inferior "side-by-side" sesamoidal articular surfaces, separated by an intersesamoidal ridge. The proximal phalangeal component is provided with a proximal circular surface at least a major portion of which has a part spherical concave surface having similar radius of curvature as the distal superior phalangeal surface of the metatarsal component. Natural, natural-resurfaced or prosthetic sesamoids are secured to a flexible mesh element arranged to be secured between the phalangeal component and the phalanx so that the sesamoids are positioned for articulation with the two inferior sesamoidal surfaces of the distal metatarsal component.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1987Date of Patent: November 29, 1988Assignee: Queen's University at KingstonInventors: Urs Wyss, Gerald A. Patent number: 4675630Abstract: A triple mode dielectric loaded bandpass filter has at least one cavity resonating in three independent orthogonal modes. A triple mode cavity can be mounted adjacent to either single, dual or triple mode cavities. Inter-cavity coupling is achieved through the iris having two separate apertures that together form a T-shape. The cavities can be planar mounted. The filter is designed for use in the satellite communication industry and results in substantial savings in weight and size when compared to previous filters.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1985Date of Patent: June 23, 1987Assignee: Com Dev Ltd.Inventors: Wai-Cheung Tang, David Siu, Bruce C. Beggs, Joseph Sferrazza

Patent number: 4652843Abstract: A bandpass filter has a plurality of cascade cavities that operate in a dual-mode and are mounted in a planar relationship to one another. Each cavity contains a dielectric resonator and resonates at its resonant frequency in two HE.sub.11.delta. modes. An iris is located between adjacent cavities and contains an aperture that can independently control inter-cavity coupling. The dielectric resonator is cylindrical in shape and an adjustable metallic plunger is located in a wall of each cavity so that the cavity can be tuned over a relatively broad range. The filter has good mechanical and thermal stability as well as being extremely flexible in the arrangement of cavities.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 1984Date of Patent: March 24, 1987Assignee: Com Dev Ltd.Inventors: Wai-Cheung Tang, David Siu, Bruce C. Beggs, Joseph Sferrazza

Patent number: 4644305Abstract: An odd order bandpass filter has at least one cavity resonating at its resonant frequency in three independent orthogonal modes. The filter has at least one feedback coupling that is made to resonate and change sign at a center frequency. When the filter has two cavities, one being a triple cavity and the other being a dual mode cavity, the filter can be operated to achieve an elliptic function response. Also, the filter of the present invention can achieve a weight and volume reduction when compared to six-pole dual mode filters.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1985Date of Patent: February 17, 1987Assignee: Com Dev.
