Patent number: 9467520Abstract: The instant invention is an apparatus and method to improve the learning experience by integrating feedback from multiple people through existing social media. The invention enables users, from within an application external to a social networking site, to automatically or manually post comments in social media related to the learning metrics of their own or other users that they have access to. These posts or comments are identifiable as associated with the external app and associated with user who posted and to the owner of the learning metric. The message can either be completely authored by the user, automatically or semi-automatically generated by the external app.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2013Date of Patent: October 11, 2016Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Babur Habib, Osman Rashid, David Straus

Publication number: 20140129286Abstract: Methods, systems, and products that execute modeled business controls on a modeled input work item to generate a corresponding modeled output work item. Input data values included in the modeled input work item either match or approximate corresponding values included in a corresponding actual input work item. Each modeled business control is defined by business rules that represent a business policy, and the business rules and the input data values of the modeled input work item are used to generate the modeled output work item. An actual output work item from a business process is compared to the modeled output work item. The actual output work item includes actual output data values. The business process changes the actual input work item into the actual output work item. The modeled output work item includes modeled output data values. Differences between the actual and modeled output work items are reported.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 9, 2014Publication date: May 8, 2014Applicant: Progress Software CorporationInventors: Mark Allen, Pedram Abrari, David Straus

Publication number: 20130040278Abstract: An apparatus and method to provide a more interactive book learning experience. The invention provides an interactive quiz component to book figures. Figures within an electronic document can be enlarged by a user input such as a touch gesture. Selected information from the enlarged figure can be hidden and used as an interactive quiz. Feedback and options for further review or interactions are provided based on user input.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 9, 2011Publication date: February 14, 2013Applicant: KNO, INC.Inventors: Osman Rashid, Babur Habib, David Straus, Robert Nagy, Christophe Gillette, Renee Rashid

Publication number: 20050208606Abstract: An apparatus for detecting the presence of an airborne mycotoxin in an enclosure. Pumping apparatus draws a portion of environmental air from the enclosure. A medium receives the portion of the environmental air and separates mycotoxins from the portion of air. Testing apparatus determines the presence of mycotoxins separated from the portion of air. A method of detecting the presence of an airborne mycotoxin in an enclosure by continually removing a portion of environmental air from a chosen area in the enclosure. The portion of environmental air is then passed through a filtering medium. Any filtrate filtered from the air is tested to determine the presence of a mycotoxin.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 17, 2004Publication date: September 22, 2005Inventors: David Straus, Stephen Wilson, Trevor Brasel

Patent number: 6287603Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing cyclodextrin inclusion complexes that increases the efficiency of the complexation so that a higher percentage of the active is recovered as a cyclodextrin inclusion complex. The process involves adding a cyclodextrin to a solvent in a reaction vessel, adding an active to the cyclodextrin solution with stirring, and allowing the mixture to stir for an appropriate amount of time and at a sufficient temperature to form an inclusion complex between the cyclodextrin and the active. A solids content increasing agent such as gum acacia, maltodextrin, modified dextrins, or mixtures thereof, is then added to the solution to increase the total solids content of the solution and the solution is at 25° C. and 40° C. and relative humidity of 53 percent dried to recover the cyclodextrin-active inclusion complex as a dry powder with the amount of active in the powder ranging from 1 to 20 percent by weight of the complex.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1999Date of Patent: September 11, 2001Assignee: Nestec S.A.Inventors: Nikhil Prasad, David Straus, Glen Reichart
