Abstract: Methods and systems are described for preventing disconnection of a module from a module connector prior to initiating a shutdown routine and for preventing operation of the module unless a retention device is engaged. The system includes a switch having a first state for allowing operation of a module and a second state for initiating shutdown and/or preventing operation of the module. At least one retention device prevents disconnection of the module from the module connector. A covering member is movable between first and second positions, but is prevented from moving to the first position when the retention device in not engaged. In the first position, the covering member prevents access to the retention device and the switch is in the first state and in the second position the covering member allows access to the retention device and transitions the switch to the second state.

Abstract: Perimeter lighting systems for portable communication devices such as radiotelephones include a light distribution channel which is configured to capture light emitted by a device and directs it around perimeter portions of the device to allow for easier locating means in dark or low light conditions. The perimeter lighting system can be integrated into the housing of the device or can be provided as an after market case or belt clip.

Abstract: A retractable system, apparatus, and method for dispensing, receiving, and storing flexible members are disclosed. The system, apparatus, and method are comprised of a spool, an air-damper member, and a house member. The spool is adapted to receive and store varying lengths of a flexible member. The air-damper member is concentrically disposed in the spool and defines at least two rotatable air filled chambers or channels. The house member secures the spool and the air-damper member in a concentric enclosed airy arrangement.
