  • Patent number: 6347437
Abstract: A zipper arrangement for use in manufacturing thermoplastic bags that includes a zipper and at least one slider. The zipper includes first and second opposing tracks. The first track has a first profile and the second track has a second profile. The first and second profiles are releasably engageable to each other. The first track has one or more spaced primary notches interrupting the first profile. At least one slider is inserted onto the first profile via a respective one of the primary notches. The slider is adapted to engage and disengage the first and second profiles in response to movement along the zipper. The second track may have one or more spaced primary notches interrupting the second profile. The spaced primary notches of the second track are generally aligned to respective ones of the primary notches of the first track. At least one slider is inserted onto the aligned pairs of primary notches via a respective one of the generally aligned notches.

  • Publication number: 20020009239
Abstract: A plastic bag comprises opposing body panels fixedly connected to each other along a pair of sides and a bottom bridging the pair of sides. A reclosable zipper extending along a mouth portion formed opposite the sealed bottom of the plastic bag. The zipper is preferably free of graspable upper pull flanges in order to best accommodate a slider and inhibit operation of the zipper without the slider. The slider is mounted to the zipper for movement between a closed position and an open position. The zipper is closed while the slider is in the closed position. The zipper is opened in response to movement of the slider to the open position. To inhibit tampering with the contents of the bag, the bag includes a tamper-evident feature. In one set of embodiments, the tamper-evident feature initially maintains the slider in the closed position and allows the slider to move away from the closed position toward the open position in response to removing or breaking the tamper-evident feature.

  • Patent number: 6010244
Abstract: A reclosable bag comprises a pair of opposing wall panels, a reclosable seal, and an optional tamper-evident partition. The pair of opposing wall panels are joined along a pair of opposing sides and a bottom bridging the opposing sides to create a receptacle space having a mouth end opposite the bottom. The reclosable seal extends along the mouth end, and includes first and second opposing reclosable elements and first and second fins extending downward from the respective reclosable elements. The reclosable elements are releasably engageable to each other. The first and second fins are connected to the respective opposing wall panels. The tamper-evident partition is located below the reclosable elements and forms a one-time breakable preferential area of weakness. The tamper-evident partition separates an interior of the bag from a first area bounded in cross-section by the tamper-evident partition, the fins, and the engaged reclosable elements.

  • Patent number: 5851070
Abstract: The present invention improves performance of the side and/or fin seals of plastic bags through the use of resins that have a narrow molecular weight distribution or polydispersity. The performance of the side seal and/or fin seal of a plastic bag is improved by using body panels which comprise a first resin, and optionally, a second resin. The first resin is preferably prepared in the presence of a single site catalyst. The first resin has a polydispersity of from about 1 to about 4, a melt index of from about 0.2 to about 20, and a melt flow ratio (I.sub.20 /I.sub.2) of from about 12 to about 35. The use of such first resins results in side and fin seals which are stronger, tougher, and less likely to leak. The second resin is a polymer such as LDPE, LLDPE, or a blend thereof In body panels comprising both a first and a second resin, the first resin may be coextruded with LDPE or LLDPE as a thin layer of the body panel or the first resin may be blended with the LDPE and/or LLDPE.

  • Patent number: 5718337
Abstract: A carton for a bag stack comprises a bottom wall, opposing front and back walls, and opposing first and second side walls bridging the opposing front and back walls. The first side wall forms a first pair of detents in proximity to the respective front and back walls. The second side wall forms a second pair of detents in proximity to the respective front and back walls. The front and back walls each include a profiled upper edge forming a window adapted to accommodate a human hand and allow retrieval of the plastic bags within the carton via the window. The bag stack includes first sets of plastic bags and second sets of plastic bags interleaved (alternately-arranged) with each other. Each set of plastic bags may include one or more plastic bags. The first and second sets of plastic bags are oriented in opposite longitudinal directions.

  • Patent number: 5682730
Abstract: A plastic bag comprises first and second opposing panels fixedly connected to each other along a pair of sides, a primary bottom, and a secondary bottom. The primary and secondary bottoms extend between the pair of sides. The sides and the secondary bottom define a receptacle space having a mouth formed opposite the secondary bottom. The plastic bag further comprises a bottom header disposed between the primary and secondary bottoms and including first and second opposing header panels. The first header panel is extruded with and extends downward from the first body panel. The second header panel is extruded with and extends downward from the second body panel. • Patent number: 5669715
Abstract: A reclosable plastic bag comprises first and second opposing panels fixedly connected to each other along a pair of sides and a bottom bridging the pair of sides. The bag is provided with a reclosable zipper extending along a mouth formed opposite the sealed bottom. The zipper includes a male track with a male profile and a female track with a female profile. A slider is slidably mounted to the zipper for movement between a closed position and an open position. The male and female profiles are engaged to each other while the slider is in the closed position. The male and female profiles are disengaged from each other in response to movement of the slider to the open position. To prevent tampering with the contents of the plastic bag prior to being initially opened, the slider is initially parked in the closed position at one end of the zipper, and upper edges of the male and female profiles are detachably connected to each other, except at the one end of the zipper supporting the parked slider.
