  • Patent number: 5611596
Abstract: A child safety seat for use in a vehicle comprises a seat body having a seat portion and a backrest portion. Guides on the seat body define a strap path for a strap of an adult seat belt which secures the seat body to a vehicle seat. A strap deflecting lever is movable between a first position clear of said strap path and a second position in which the strap is deflected and thus tightened.

  • Patent number: 5567007
Abstract: An infant safety seat for use in a motor vehicle, having a rigid seat back (12), is adapted to be mounted in a vehicle so that a seated occupant faces rearwardly. The side of the seat back (12) facing away from the occupant has a guide (30) for receiving a shoulder portion (24) of an adult seat belt and a clamp (28, 32) for inhibiting movement of the shoulder portion (24) of the adult seat belt relative to the seat back (12). A cover (40) is arranged, when in a closed position, to enclose the guide (30, 32) and to cause engagement of the clamp (26 28).

  • Patent number: 5487588
Abstract: A child safety seat for use in a vehicle comprises a seat body having a seat portion and a backrest portion. In order to connect the seat body to a motor vehicle, a pair of attachment buckles are mounted by rigid links on opposite sides of the seat body for movement between first and second positions. In the first position, the buckles project rearwardly so as to be engageable with two anchorage units which are rigidly fixed to the vehicle body so as to be accessible between the seat portion and the backrest portion of the vehicle seat. In the second position, the buckles provide support for guides for an adult seat belt.

  • Patent number: 4854639
Abstract: A child's safety seat comprises a seat body having a seat portion, a back rest and vertically extending side walls projecting forwardly from the side edges of the back rest. First and second guide means adjacent to the junction between the seat portion and the back rest for serve to locate a lap portion of an adult seat belt. A head rest is mounted on the back rest by means permitting adjustment of the distance between the head rest and the seat portion. Third guide means is positioned so as to guide a shoulder portion of an adult belt between the back rest and the head rest.

  • Patent number: 4790601
Abstract: A child's seat for a motor vehicle comprises a back portion and a harness including two shoulder straps each of which projects through a respective opening in the back portion. Each opening is formed by the interaction of an elongate slot formed in the back portion and extending over the range of desired positions for the opening, with a horizontal slot in a carriage mounted on the rear side of the back portion for vertical sliding movement relative thereto. Manually operable control means is arranged to vary the position of the carriage relative to the back portion.

  • Patent number: 4256273
Abstract: A safety belt retractor has a spindle 11 provided with an outer layer 14 formed of a material which is capable of absorbing energy by substantially inelastic deformation. When the safety belt 10 is subject to shock-loading exceeding a predetermined level, this outer layer 14 is crushed, leading to a reduction in the effective diameter of the spindle 11 and thereby allowing an additional length of the belt 10 to be paid out after the spindle 11 has been loaded.

  • Patent number: 4197619
Abstract: A tongue and buckle fastener for a safety belt harness in which the tongue has a head portion securable by a spring-loaded latching member in the buckle. A spring loaded tongue ejector ejects the tongue from the buckle after operating a push-button to move the latching member to a release position. The latching member is biased and guided for movement transversely of the tongue insertion direction. A camming member, between the push-button and the latching member, is guided for movement in the tongue insertion direction. The camming member has ramps, one at each side, which co-operate with respective shoulders on the latching member. A pair of spring arms exert a return bias on the camming member and extend between the shoulders and the ramps.
