  • Patent number: 8030376
Abstract: Disclosed herein are processes for dispersing a plurality of unaggregated particles, such as nanoparticles and microparticles, in a viscous medium. The dispersions can be used for making a variety of useful materials, such as carbon nanotube composites.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 12, 2007
Date of Patent: October 4, 2011
    Assignee: MinusNine Technologies, Inc.
    Inventor: David W. Kurz

  • Patent number: 5648186
Abstract: Polymers, oligomers or copolymers, having a dendrimer structure and containing electronegative heteroatoms, such as etheric oxygens, capable of complexing with cationic species, for use in ionically-conductive polymeric electrolytes, Relatively high ambient conductivity is a feature of such electrolytes.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 6, 1996
Date of Patent: July 15, 1997
    Assignee: Gould Electronics Inc.
Inventors: Mark L. Daroux, David W. Kurz, Morton Litt, Anastasios Melissaris, Donald G. Pucci
  • Patent number: 5444129
Abstract: A plurality of substituted styrene monomers, for example, urea substituted, is disclosed as well as polymers and copolymers made therefrom. Various thermoset plastic components can be reacted with the monomers, polymers, or copolymers of these substituted styrenes, as for example epoxy, which form a crosslinked system useful as an adhesive or a fiber reinforced substrate for circuit boards. The monomers are made by reacting aminostyrene type monomers with isocyanate containing molecules.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 11, 1995
Date of Patent: August 22, 1995
    Assignee: Gould Inc.

  • Patent number: 4985522
Abstract: There is disclosed a family of new vinyl monomers capable of forming polymers by free radical polymerization. The vinyl monomer is of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbons, X is O, NH or NR.sub.3, and R.sub.3 is substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon. The intermediates in the synthesis of these monomers are new beta-chloroanaline ureas. The polymers are useful in film and fiber formation and display good toughness. These new vinyl monomers also form a cyclic monomer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 19, 1989
Date of Patent: January 15, 1991
Assignee: The University of Southern Mississippi
Inventors: Lon J. Mathias, David W. Kurz
