    Abstract: A retention mechanism for a PCD insert includes an expansion bolt inserted through a mounting element into a bore of the PCD insert. The bore of the PCD insert has an opening diameter that is greater than a terminal diameter at a terminal end of the bore. The expansion anchor is expanded in the bore, and an interference of the expanded expansion bolt with the body of the PCD insert secures the PCD insert to the mounting element.

The degradation assembly may be capable of detecting and determining the location of a selected pick measuring impacts on at least one pick with at least one sensor, detecting a variation on the at least one pick with the at least one sensor, and determining a location of the at least one pick with more than one of the sensors.

The working face has at least one cutting element and a jack element disposed partially within the drill bit body and partially protruding from the working face. The jack element is adapted to be rotated with respect to the bit body by a driving mechanism disposed within a bore of the drill string. A generator or motor with a rotor is incorporated into a torque transmitting mechanism that links the driving mechanism to the jack element, and configured so that at least one waveform is produced in the generator or motor when the jack element is rotated. The waveform is processed by an electronic processing device to determine the rotational position of the jack element.

    Abstract: In one aspect of the invention a system for removing a layer of a paved surface comprising a vehicle is adapted to traverse a paved surface in a selected direction. The vehicle has a milling drum with an axle substantially parallel and connected to the vehicle within a milling chamber. The drum is adapted to rotate around the axle between the paved surface and the vehicle. A conveyor belt is attached to a forward end of the vehicle and comprises a portion proximate an opening of the milling chamber. The belt is adapted to carry loose aggregate from the milling drum away from the paved surface. At least one nozzle is disposed on an underside of the vehicle and is in communication with a reservoir through a pathway. The at least one nozzle is adapted to direct the loose aggregate towards the portion of the conveyor belt.
