  • Publication number: 20170042421
Abstract: An apparatus for enabling corneal topography includes an attachment to align a placido disc illumination system with a camera of a mobile communication device. The placido disc illumination system generates concentric rings and reflects the concentric rings off a cornea. A portion of the reflected concentric rings are utilized to confirm vertex distance. The apparatus further comprises a memory, a processor, and computer-readable instructions in a mobile communication device. The camera captures an image of reflected concentric rings and communicates the captured image of the reflected concentric rings to an external computing device. A method for performing corneal topography utilizes a mobile computing and/or communication device, projects a plurality of peripheral concentric rings onto a subject's cornea and projects center rings onto the subject's cornea. The method further includes capturing, via a smartphone camera, an image of the projected peripheral concentric rings and the center rings.

  • Publication number: 20170006784
Abstract: This disclosure relates to agricultural canopies used primarily to control the amount of light and/or moisture and/or heat reaching growing plants within the canopy footprint. More specifically, it relates to mechanisms for pulling a flexible canopy over a support structure and then for removing the canopy to uncover the structure and the plants below. The mechanisms include an arm mounted rotationally on a base. • Publication number: 20160331697
Abstract: A process for making nanoparticles of biocompatible materials is described, wherein an aqueous reaction mixture comprising cerous ion, malic acid, an oxidant, and water, is provided along with temperature conditions to directly form within the reaction mixture, a stable dispersion of nanoceria particles. Biocompatible nanoparticles comprised of ceria and malic acid are described. • Patent number: 9495700
Abstract: The present invention employs branded virtual characters to engage and educate users regarding an array of health-related insurance, financial, and other benefits, enabling informed decision-making during this complex process. Information is collected gradually on an “as-needed” basis to avoid overwhelming users with lengthy and redundant requests for information, while still providing a safe environment for users to freely discuss personal, health, financial and related sensitive issues. Throughout the process, the system employs a portfolio-driven approach to identify inter-dependencies among different benefit products and plans, and prioritize and recommend “portfolio-level” benefit solutions. Back-end components enable users to complete transactions (e.g.

  • Patent number: 9295202
Abstract: This disclosure is for an automated canopy greenhouse having a motor driven canopy that is pulled over curved arch supports. The greenhouse has a generally rectangular base framework to which the arches are attached, the outside of the structure having the general shape of a cylinder cut lengthwise and resting on its flat side. A canopy or tarp is wound around a drum positioned near the bottom of one of the long sides. A shuttle bar is attached to two trolleys each of which ride on an arch at each end of the greenhouse. The trolleys are motor driven. One end of the canopy is attached to the shuttle bar and closes or opens the greenhouse as the trolleys and shuttle bar are moved. Inside the drum there is a torsion spring that is preloaded to balance the load of the canopy and associated hardware as the canopy is being raised or lowered. Successive greenhouse units may be attached to a first greenhouse unit that has the motor, and tarps on the successive units may be closed or opened using the same motor.
