    Abstract: Weed seeds are destroyed in the chaff from a combine harvester by repeated high speed impacts caused by a rotor mounted in one of a pair of side by side housings which accelerate the discarded seeds in a direction centrifugally away from the rotor onto a stator including angularly adjustable stator surfaces around the axis. Thus the discarded seeds rebound back and forth between the rotor and the stator to provide a plurality of impacts. The seeds are carried axially of the rotor by a controlled airstream so that they move to an axial discharge location where a discharge fan is mounted. The angle of the discharge around the rotor axis can be changed to direct the seeds to the side of the combine away from a straw chopper, towards the guide fins of the tailboard of the chopper, or into the housing of the straw chopper.

An arrangement is operable so that in a first mode the crop material is spread wholly by the tailboard and in a second mode the crop material is spread at least mainly by the rotary spreader. In the second mode the tailboard remains position above the rotary spreader which is therefore located underneath a guide surface with fins of the guide surface facing downwardly adjacent the blades. The movement to the second ode is provided by the rotary spreader being moved forwardly and downwardly.

The rotor is driven by a drive transmission from an output drive shaft of the drive system of the combine harvester including first a right angle gear box connected to the drive shaft, a second right angle gear box connected to the rotor and a single drive shaft communicating drive from the first gear box to the second gear box. One end of the rotor is supported by a shaft of the second gearbox carried on the combine housing. An adjustment is provided at the output shaft or at a gearbox to remotely from the cab adjust the speed of the rotor. The drive transmission includes a cogged timing belt for positive drive for increased power.

    Abstract: In a combine harvester comprising a threshing rotor and an internal chopper or beater behind the threshing rotor feeding into a rear straw chopper and spreader through a distribution chamber there is provided a distribution assembly mounted rearwardly of the internal chopper or beater for controlling distribution of the materials transversely of the distribution chamber. The distribution assembly includes a pair of rearwardly extending fins which are moved by a control system for operating the fins to change the distribution at the rear of the combine harvester. The fins are carried on a mounting which is translated side to side and the fins are curved in a direction longitudinally of the direction of movement of the material from the discharge. The fins are controlled in response to a plurality of sensors at spaced positions across the distribution chamber and the sensors measure crop flow at the sensor by detecting impact of crop material on the sensor.

On each side of the tailboard an outermost one of the guide fins has a first fin portion extending downwardly from the bottom surface to an lowermost edge, a second fin portion inclined from the lowermost edge downwardly and toward the contact side of the fin and a third fin portion inclined from the second portion to the concave side and toward the bottom surface.
