Publication number: 20110119044Abstract: An efficient, cycle-accurate processor execution simulator models a target processor by executing a program execution image comprising instructions having run-time dependencies resolved by execution on an existing processor compatible with the target processor. The instructions may have been executed upon a processor in an I/O environment too complex to model. In one embodiment, the simulator executes instructions that were directly executed on a processor. In another embodiment, a markup engine alters a compiled program image, with reference to instructions executed on a processor, to remove run-time dependencies. The marked up program image is then executed by the simulator. The processor execution simulator includes an update engine operative to cycle-accurately simulate instruction execution, and a communication engine operative to model each communication bus of the target processor.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 26, 2008Publication date: May 19, 2011Inventor: Anthony Dean Walker

Publication number: 20100057427Abstract: A processor simulation environment includes a processor execution model operative to simulate the execution of processor instructions according to the characteristics of a target processor, and branch override logic. When the processor execution model decodes a branch instruction, it requests a branch directive from the branch override logic. In response to the request, the branch override logic provides a branch directive that resolves the branch evaluation. The request may include a branch instruction address. The branch override logic may index an execution trace of instructions executed on a processor compatible with the target processor, using the branch instruction address. The branch directive may include an override branch target address, which may be obtained from the instruction trace, or otherwise calculated by the branch override logic. In this manner, accurate program execution order may be simulated in a simulation environment in which complex I/O is not modeled.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 4, 2008Publication date: March 4, 2010Inventor: Anthony Dean Walker

Patent number: 7353353Abstract: A method for implementing security management in a storage area network by controlling access to network resources. Initially, a resource provider communicates with potential resource users, such as host computers, servers, and workstations, to allow the users to discover the resources available on the storage area network. Resource users that have not previously logged in to a particular resource supply identification information to the resource provider, which places the information in a ‘not yet approved entity’ table. The ‘not yet approved entity’ table is made available to a management station. An administrator, using the management station, then determines whether to authorize use of resources. If access to the requested resource is allowed, the resource user identification information is stored in an ‘approved entity’ table. A login is then allowed by the resource user to the selected resource.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 2005Date of Patent: April 1, 2008Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: James E. Patent number: 7240087Abstract: A communication network implements a timing system that closely approximates network response times so that information may be transmitted between two data processing systems within the network in a timely and efficient manner. During operation of the communication network, a sending data processing system sends query data to a receiving data processing system. A response timer within the sending data processing system is initialized to track the query operation. If the receiving data processing system provides a response to the sending data processing system before the response timer expires, the timing implemented for data communications is proper for the communication network. However, if the receiving data processing system fails to provide a response within a time specified by the response timer, the transmitting data processing system resends a query frame.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1997Date of Patent: July 3, 2007Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Anthony Dean Walker

Publication number: 20060177292Abstract: A high-clearance dump system is described for use with a riding mower. A folding lift assembly lifts the catcher box up and away from the riding mower to allow dumping over and away from the walls of a truck or other receiving vehicle. The folding lift assembly interfolds into the dumping catcher assembly and the dump system mount assembly thus providing a low-profile when in the lowered position. A lift pivot arm, and lift control rods that are shorter than the lift pivot arm, cause the catcher frame to be tilted at an obtuse angle with respect to the lift pivot arm so that the back end of the catcher frame is higher than the front end of the catcher frame when the lift pivot arm is raised, thus providing high clearance. A power system provides power a switch box that switches power between a lift cylinder and a dump cylinder so that the catcher may be dumped in a raised, partially raised, or lowered position.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 4, 2005Publication date: August 10, 2006Inventor: Dean Walker

Publication number: 20050083921Abstract: Instead of alternatively utilizing only one fabric or the other fabric of a redundant pair, both fabrics simultaneously transmit duplicate information, such that each packet forwarding module (PFM) receives the output of both fabrics simultaneously. In real time, an internal optics module (IOM) analyzes each information chunk coming out of a working zero switch fabric; simultaneously examines a parallel output of a working one duplicate switch fabric; and compares on a chunk-by-chunk basis the validity of each and every chunk from both switch fabrics. The IOM does this by examining forward error correction (FEC) check symbols encapsulated into each chunk. FEC check symbols allow correcting a predetermined number of bit errors within a chunk. If the chunk cannot be corrected, then the IOM provides indication to all PFMs downstream that the chunk is defective. Under such conditions, the PFMs select a chunk from the non-defective switch fabric.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 5, 2004Publication date: April 21, 2005Applicant: Chiaro Networks Ltd.Inventors: Thomas McDermott, Harry Blackmon, Tony Brewer, Harold Dozier, Jim Kleiner, Gregory Palmer, Keith Shaw, David Traylor, Dean Walker

Patent number: 5646939Abstract: A token ring network performs address to port mapping by taking advantage of the abilities of the port switched modules and the neighbor notification process, in order to perform address to port mapping on each individual module. Ring monitors are switched from an upstream side of a port to a downstream side of a port when the neighbor notification process enters the port domain. The processor on the module records all the addresses received on the downstream side of the port, when the neighbor notification process is in the domain of that port. If it appears that the neighbor notification process is in the domain of two adjacent ports, the present invention only records addresses from the most downstream of the two adjacent ports, since such a situation is an indication that the upstream ports do not conform to MAC protocol.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 1995Date of Patent: July 8, 1997Assignees: International Business Machines Coporation, 3Com CorporationInventors: Carl Lindeborg, Edward Carroll, James Moran, David Bartolini, John Griesing, Liz Lindell, Anthony Dean Walker, Bradley S.
