The modular wireless communications platform has a modular host unit and a modular remote unit in communication with the modular host unit. The modular host unit also has an interface coupled to the serial radio frequency communicator and configured to allow transfer of the RF sampled data from the serial radio frequency communicator to a digital to analog radio frequency transceiver module. Likewise, the modular remote unit has a serial radio frequency communicator configured to convert serial digital data into RF sampled data and configured to convert RF sampled data into serial digital data.

    Abstract: An integration panel comprises a control module, a plurality of radio frequency (RF) modules, and a backplane configured to couple the plurality of RF modules to the control module. Each of the plurality of RF modules is configured to be coupled to a respective network device and to a host unit of a distributed antenna system. Each RF module is further configured to condition the RF signals received from the respective network device and to provide the conditioned RF signals to the host unit. Each of the RF modules is configured to sample the conditioned RF signals and to provide the sampled RF signals to the control module via the backplane. The control module is configured to perform signal analysis of the sampled RF signals and to provide the results of the signal analysis to a user device located remotely from the integration panel.

In one embodiment, a method comprises: receiving a request for location services from a subscriber unit located within a digital DAS, the digital DAS including a first partition of bandwidth for transporting digitized RF signals of one or more modulated signals and a second partition of bandwidth for an Ethernet pipe transporting IP formatted data; routing the request for location services to a subscriber locator center; instructing locator receivers within a geographical area of the digital DAS to listen for a signal from the subscriber unit; listening for the signal at a first locator receiver; when the signal is observed, recording a time the signal was received and generating subscriber unit ranging data; and transmitting subscriber unit ranging data back to the subscriber locator center in an IP formatted message via the Ethernet pipe.

The device comprises: a first signal path for transporting digital data signals; a controller for monitoring events affecting the first signal path; and a muting module coupled to the controller, wherein the muting module controls muting of a signal power of the first signal path as directed by the controller. The muting module applies a hard clamping to mute the signal power of the first signal path when the controller identifies an unplanned event. The muting module applies a ramp to mute the signal power of the first signal path when the controller identified a planned event.
