  • Patent number: 4304032
Abstract: A capacitor assembly and method of manufacture is disclosed, the capacitor being of the type including a capacitor winding received into a capacitor housing cavity, with a pair of terminal contact straps each positioned in contact with an opposite face of the capacitor winding and along the upper surface of the housing adjacent the cavity. A cap overlying the capacitor winding, as well as the terminal, is provided by an injection molding of material by means including a molding die which compresses one of the contact straps which normally upwardly extend to enable positioning of the mold top plates over the housing recess during the molding process. Spring back of the contact allows the contact to return to its original position.

  • Patent number: 4291362
Abstract: Apparatus and a method of installing feed through capacitors for automotive radio frequency suppression applications, in which a number of the capacitors are employed, each interposed between a power supply terminal and an electrically powered device. The method includes the step of assembling the capacitor components to an insulated wire, which is of the required length to extend from the power supply terminal to the powered device, eliminating the need for separately connected leads to and from the capacitor. Also included is a contact disc clip retainer crimped to the insulated wire to anchor the capacitor components thereto. The capacitor windings are also received over the insulated wire and positioned with one end face in abutment against the contact disc clip retainer disposed within a metallic capacitor housing. A D-clip engages the opposite face of the capacitor windings and in turn engages the interior metallic fastener housing which is grounded.

  • Patent number: 4198671
Abstract: A capacitor assembly in which a capacitor is encapsulated by a molding process, with the encapsulation providing a structural securement of the electrical terminals and/or mounting brackets to the capacitor windings, as well as affording a complete sealing of the capacitor assembly. The molding process is carried out after assembly of the components into a cradle or housing which temorarily maintains the electrical terminals and mounting bracket in contact with the capacitor windings. Upon placement of the assembly into an injection mold and closing of the mold, the various components are forced into tight contact by the injection molding process. Upon solidication of the encapsulation material, the various parts are thereby secured together.
