  • Patent number: 6246987
Abstract: A method of accessing a resource, where the resource is accessible by a plurality of authorized persons. The method receives a signal representative of a first utterance from a first person, wherein the first utterance represents information. In response to the signal representative of a first utterance from a first person, the method determines with a computer system whether the first person is one of the plurality of authorized persons. The method also receives a signal representative of a first utterance from a second person, where the signal representative of a first utterance from a second person represents the same information as the information represented by the signal representative of a first utterance from the first person. In response to the signal representative of the first utterance from the second person, the method determines with the computer system whether the second person is one of the plurality of authorized persons.

  • Patent number: 6223157
Abstract: Digital Cellular telephony requires voice compression designed to minimize the bandwidth required for the digital cellular channel. The features used in speech recognition have similar components to those used in the vocoding process. The present invention provides a system that bypasses the de-compression or decoding phase of the vocoding and converts the digital cellular parameters directly into features that can be processed by a recognition engine. More specifically, the present invention provides a system and method for mapping a vocoded representation of parameters defining speech components, which in turn define a particular waveform, into a base feature type representation of parameters defining speech components (e.g. LPC parameters), which in turn define the same digital waveform.

  • Patent number: 6061653
Abstract: A method of operating a speech recognition system. The method loads a speech model from a storage facility into a memory accessible by a processor. This loading step includes two steps. A first of these steps loads process-independent state data representative of a plurality of states of the speech model. A second of these steps loads process-specific state data representative of the plurality of states of the speech model. The speech recognition system then performs a first speech recognition process with the processor by accessing the process-independent state data and a first portion of the process-specific state data. The speech recognition system also performs a second speech recognition process with the processor, where the second process also accesses the process-independent state data but further accesses a second portion of the process-specific state data different than the first portion of the process-specific state data.
