  • Patent number: 9449435
Abstract: A device may receive a first type of measurement associated with a vehicle and receive a second type of measurement associated with a power source connected to the vehicle. The second type of measurement may be different than the first type of measurement. The device may determine a key-on or a key-off status of the vehicle based on the first type of measurement and the second type of measurement without communicating with a vehicle diagnostic system associated with the vehicle. The key-off status may correspond to an engine of the vehicle being powered off and the key-on status may correspond to the engine of the vehicle being powered on. The device may initiate communications with the vehicle diagnostic system based on determining the key-on status.

  • Patent number: 9251629
Abstract: Examples of a telematics device are configured to connect to an on-board diagnostics port of a vehicle and collect telematics data related to the vehicle. The telematics device examples perform processes to determine whether a time value received by an external source is accurate with respect to a variance value. Based on the determination, a clock time value may be either modified based the accurate time value received from the external source or left unmodified. In addition, an example provides a time gap determination that accounts for time between a reconnection of the telematics device to a vehicle diagnostics port and receipt of an external time value.

  • Publication number: 20150269681
Abstract: A device may receive a request for a vehicle insurance bid including information that identifies a driver and information that identifies a vehicle associated with the driver. The device may identify an insurer that is to be provided with bidding information associated with the driver and the vehicle. The device may determine a subscription type associated with the insurer that may indicate a scope of the bidding information that is to be provided to the insurer. The device may determine the bidding information based on the subscription type, the request, and driver information associated with the driver and/or the vehicle. The device may provide the bidding information to an insurer device associated with the insurer. The device may receive a bid after providing the bidding information. The device may provide the bid such that the driver can purchase vehicle insurance associated with the bid.
