  • Patent number: 6003217
Abstract: The invention pertains to a method of and apparatus for sizing a factory made pleated shade downwardly to an exact width from a factory made width at the point of purchase in a retail outlet using the skill level of the service personnel commonly found in such retail establishments. Specifically, a pleated shade having (a) two or more lift cords and (b) head and bottom rails which are slidable with respect to the top pleat or pleats and the bottom pleat or pleats, respectively, is arranged so that the pleats as an integral unit can be moved relative to both the head and bottom rails in diametrically opposite directions whereby the pleats may be sized by cutting off portions at each and thereof and the rails sized by single or multiple cutting operations.

  • Patent number: 5610373
Abstract: An improved scale, including bathroom-type scales, is provided by employing markings on the dial for calibrating the scale using photosensor equipment. The adjusting nut of the scale and the calibration stud of the scale are both accessible for automated mechanical calibration after assembly of the scale. As a result, an iterative calibration procedure is employed by machine as opposed to traditional manual methods. Photosensors read the dial and send a signal to mechanical driver or wrench mechanisms for automated calibration. The improved scale and calibration method reduces labor and production costs.

  • Patent number: 5072494
Abstract: A method and apparatus for sizing a slat window blind to an exact width at the point of purchasing using the level of operator skill typically found in retail outlet. The invention is particularly adapted for use in connection with a type of blind in which a number of individual, horizontally disposed slats are spaced vertically apart from one another along flexible lines, often referred to as ladder cords, and which have a flat or slightly curved cross-sectional configuration. Often such slats are approximately one inch in width and frequently the term "mini blind" has been applied to this type of article.

  • Patent number: 4993131
Abstract: A method of shortening the width, that is, sizing a mini blind to any specified dimension by an operator having the skill level found in a retail outlet, is disclosed. In addition, a machine for sizing a mini blind to any specified dimension by an operator having the skill level found in a retail outlet is also disclosed. The method and machine are applicable to mini blinds which require either one or several ladders to be affixed to the blind and hence the operation of one or more drill systems, the number being proportional to the width of the blind.

  • Patent number: 4674550
Abstract: A window shade motor and a window shade roller assembly which is characterized by easier release and release with greater certainty, as contrasted to current construction, while having fewer parts which is based, in part, on arranging the pivot axes of the pawls closer to the center and a reduction of parts to as few as seven including a cage structure which performs several functions and which may easily be formed by progressive stamping.

  • Patent number: 3978904
Abstract: In a traverse rod assembly, a draw cord is trained around rollers at opposite ends of the rod with an intermediate portion of the cord also being trained around a tensioning device. The two opposite end portions of the cord are secured to a master carrier which is slidable back and forth on the rod from one end thereof to the middle of the rod. Each end portion of the cord is fastened to the carrier in essentially the same manner with a bight being formed in the end portion of the cord and around a finger projecting rearwardly from the backside of the carrier so that, upon progressing from the end of the cord, the leading end of the bight overlaps the trailing end of the bight thereby holding the trailing end of the cord against the backside of the carrier. From the bight, the cord is trained reversely through a wedge slot formed through the center portion of the carrier adjacent the finger and extends toward the roller at the adjacent end of the rod.
